NEW AUCTION HOUSE OPENS IN LONDON
Flints Auctioneers specialising in Cameras, Scientific & Medical Instruments as well as Early Technology has now opened for business in London.
Flints will hold at least four Fine sales a year offering cameras from the earliest wet plate examples through to modern 35mm ones, and antique scientific and medical instruments. In addition, three annual Collectors sales will offer more affordable pieces as well as group lots.
Part owner Jonathan Brown, who increased the turnover of the Camera department to over a million pounds in the three years he was at Special Auction Services, says,
“We know there is still a gap in the market for an auction house entirely dedicated to our specialist areas. We are keen to consolidate our experience and offer collectors and dealers alike a one-stop shop for the finest examples of Cameras, Scientific & Medical Instruments as well as Early Technology.”
In addition to Jonathan’s expertise in fine antique and collectible cameras, Flints offers a wealth of experience from co-owners Matthew Nunn and Keith Petts. Matthew specialises in scientific antiques and pre-20th century cameras, while Keith has over 25 years’ experience in scientific and medical antiques, focussing on the earlier periods.
Keith says,
“In the auction world, the whole collectors market is still in flux, with the big names pulling out of these specialisms, and we witness a scrabble from provincial houses to grab a slice of the market. What we offer is years of expertise combined with careful thought about improving the service offered to both buyers and sellers. We make full use of the cutting-edge technology provided by the Auction Technology Group, and this is enhanced by our own website with 360° viewing of top lots.”
Matt Nunn added,
“We have put two years of careful planning into this business, the only thing that has taken us by surprise is the enthusiasm of our long-term customers, both collectors and those in the trade. The high quality and volume of consignments means we are bringing forward our first sale of Scientific and Medical instruments and Early Technology to September and our 20th October sale will be solely for Photographica, and includes the renowned Eric Evans collection of 19th century British cameras.”
The auctions will be held in London at Stoke Newington West Reservoir Centre, Green Lanes, London N4 2HA.
