Nikon scoops two top EISA Awards for D200 and U Point Technology/Capture NX Software

Amsterdam, 15 August 2006.  Nikon Europe has taken two top honours at the prestigious EISA 2006-2007 Best Product Awards, with the D200 hailed as Camera of the year and Nikon’s U Point Technology/Capture NX software triumphant in the European Photo Innovation category. The two awards – for two quite different products - demonstrate Nikon’s commitment to producing a range of best-in-class products that are chosen by professional camera users all over the world for their quality, variety and overall performance.

Martina Beckmann, Manager Communications & Marketing Services at Nikon Europe, said: “We are particularly pleased that the D200 has been recognised by the EISA judges as Camera of the year for 2006-07 as it is a product that epitomizes all that Nikon stands for in terms of combining great technology with superb craftsmanship. With groundbreaking systems and technology that maximize both quality and productivity, both the award-winning D200 and the Nik Software U Point Technology/Capture NX provide compelling solutions to enable photographers to stay ahead of the game.”

The EISA Awards, representing the pinnacle of the industry, cement the excellent relationship Nikon enjoys with the professional camera community, which has come to expect major leaps forward with each new Nikon product family as evidenced by the D200. At the EISA 2005-2006 Awards, Nikon landed top honours for its D2X and F6 cameras in the Professional camera and Analogue camera of the year categories respectively.

In their citation, the EISA 2006-2007 judges praised the Nikon D200 as “a semi-professional DSLR with a 10.2 million-pixel CCD that sets a new standard in this class of camera.”

They added: “The relationship between price and performance is extremely attractive. The Nikon D200 will satisfy both the advanced amateur and the professional photographer in most areas. The balance between noise, sharpness, dynamics and colour reproduction is 100% optimised for professional photography and image processing.”

Giving their reasons for awarding the European Photo Innovation category to Nik Software’s U Point Technology, included in Nikon’s new imaging software Capture NX, the EISA judges said: “U-Point gives photographers unique tools to control colour tone, hue, brightness and contrast. Without the need for any selections or masking, it is now easy to adjust individual colour areas in the picture, as required by the photographer. This powerful technology works with any JPEG, TIFF or NEF image files, allowing useful adjustments such as correction to layers, and leaving the original file untouched. The final results can all be exported in NEF format.”
