Nikon Exceeds Expectations for 2005/6

Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce strong results for the year end, 31st March 2006, which have exceeded original expectations.

• Net sales increased from 638.5 at the end of March 2005 to 730.9 at the end of March 2006.
• Operating income increased from 30.5 at the end of March 2005 to 66.6 at the end of March 2006.
• Net income increased from 24.1 at the end of March 2005 to 28.9 at the end of March 2006. (Units: billions of Yen)
• 1.34 million SLR cameras were sold in the fiscal year to March 2006, up from 1.05 million the previous year.
• 7.11 million compact digital cameras were sold in the fiscal year to March 2006, up from 5.56 million the previous year.

Yojiro Yamaguchi, President of Nikon UK, said “these latest results are very positive for Nikon and continue to build on a number of recent successful results. The major part of Nikon’s business is in the development and distribution of photographic equipment which has evolved significantly over the past half a century. Photography is increasingly about digital image processing with product development focused on technological enhancement of conventional lenses and flash systems.”
