Nikon View Pro Software is Canned

March 12, 2007 | Mark Goldstein | Software | Comment |

NikonNikon have cancelled the release of Nikon View Pro, an image management software application first announced in February 2006. Nikon “felt that the new software’s performance would not be optimal within… the environment surrounding image handling”. Which sounds very much like Nikon View Pro not being able to compete with the likes of Apple Aperture and Adobe Lightroom. Instead of Nikon View Pro, a new product is in the pipeline, scheduled for release before the end of 2007.

Nikon UK Press Release

Nikon Corporation, has made the difficult decision to cancel the release of high-speed image management and browsing software, Nikon View Pro, which was announced on February 21, 2006.

We offer our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause to customers who had anticipated the release of this product, as well as to distributors, retailers, and any other concerned parties.

Despite our desire to release the software on schedule, the environment surrounding image handling is experiencing significant changes. As a result of this Nikon took the decision to suspend the release of Nikon View Pro as it was felt that the new software’s performance would not be optimal within this new environment. We are currently developing a new generation of image management and browsing software for download from our website, and plan to begin offering this before the end of 2007.

We assure you that we are diligently working to develop innovative products in response to market demands, and thank you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to your continued support.
