The Big Interview

Barry Lategan: The Fashion Images Fashion, design, music and, of course, photography have always looked to the past for inspiration. Some photographers are repeatedly referenced, others not so often. Barry Lategan is one of those whose time seems to be now. His work looks as fresh and contemporary today as it did when he created it more than 30 years ago. Lategan’s use of stillness, muted colours, sophisticated make-up and carefully considered creative concepts made his work for both British & Italian Vogue instantly recognizable as being his. They are images which are revered by the international fashionistas and imitated by today’s fashion photographers. In this intimate conversation with Grant Scott, Lategan will discuss his inspirations for these images, his process in creating them, the models he worked with and his experiences working within the fashion and magazine industry during its ‘Golden Age’ of creativity and experimentation.
