Press Release
Mail Tribune Announces Launch of 2009 Oregon Outdoors Wild Bird Photo Contest
Medford, OR (PRWEB) November 21, 2009—The Mail Tribune is now accepting submissions for its annual Oregon Outdoors Wild Bird Photo Contest. Submissions will be accepted through 4:00 pm on December 11, 2009. Full contest rules, as well as submission guidelines and entry forms, are available online at www.MailTribune.com/birdcontest.
Open to everyone from long-time birders, to amateur photographers, to nature enthusiasts, the Oregon Outdoors Wild Bird Photo Contest invites participants to capture on film the beauty of their feathered friends in their natural habitats. Participants may enter as many bird photos as they like, but will only be eligible to win one award. All submissions must be accompanied by a completed entry form.
Entries will be judged by Mail Tribune readers and an expert panel – each group holding a 50% stake in the outcome. The expert panel will base their decisions on photo composition, technical quality, and how well a photo captures the essence of the bird. Online voting by Mail Tribune readers will commence following the December 4 submission deadline, and continue until 4:00 pm on December 18, 2009.
“I’m always amazed at the number of high-quality photos we get,” says David Smigelski, features editor for the Mail Tribune. “Last year we had at least 25 entries that were worthy of winning. It makes for some pretty heated discussions among the judges, and I can’t wait to see what this year’s entrants come up with.”
To enter, participants must fill out an online registration form and upload photos via the contest web site. Submissions may also be made in person on CD or DVD at these locations: Wild Birds Unlimited (712 Crater Lake Ave); Total Camera & Video (Harry and David’s Country Village, by south Fred Meyer); The Mail Tribune (111 N. Fir St., Medford). Entries must be submitted in a digital format. Film photos must be scanned and submitted in digital format. For complete rules, including those regarding digital enhancement, please visit the contest website.
Winning photos will be published in Oregon Outdoors on December 24, 2009. Grand Prize will be a Vortex Nomad 20-60x60 spotting scope provided by Wild Birds Unlimited. First Prize will be an Olympus Stylus 1050sw waterproof digital camera provided by Total Camera and Video. Second Prize will be a $100 gift certificate provided by Wild Birds Unlimited.
