DIWA member LetsGoDigital have reviewed the new Kodak Easyshare P880 digital camera. The Kodak Easyshare P880 is an 8 megapixel model with wide-angle 24–140 mm zoom lens and 2.5 inch LCD screen.
“In particular the image quality of the Kodak EasyShare P880 and the quality of the lens are the things I am very enthusiastic about. The Kodak P880 is a real wide-angle which is ideal for landscape imaging as well as in-house imaging. It is suitable for street photography too. With a 140mm tele there is plenty of room for zooming, which makes it a universally employable lens. The quality is excellent as well. The distortion stays between the standards and the chromatic aberration was negligible. Vignetting is not worth mentioning also. The sharpness is of high level, only directed to the corners some details become unsharp.”

DigitalCameraReview have just reviewed the Olympus mju 720 SW, a 7.1 megapixel, 3x zoom, 2.5 inch LCD, weatherproof digital camera.
“Dedicated underwater cases for compact digital cameras generally run at least half the purchase price of the camera, so the 720 SW’s $400.00 (underwater ready) price tag is a real bargain for snorkelers, sailboarders, boaters, swimmers, water skiers, seashore lovers, and beachcombers. The 720 SW’s images are a bit soft overall, but when the camera’s underwater capabilities, dust/weather resistance, and general toughness are factored in - I believe its strengths outweigh its weakness by a substantial margin.”

Imaging Resource have published their review of the Samsung Digimax L50, a 5 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens and 2.5 inch LCD screen with 230,000 pixels.
“With the Digimax L50, we found that it had enough resolution to make very crisp 8x10 inch prints. At 11x14, its prints were a bit softer looking, but more than adequate for wall or table display. At high ISO, image noise levels are held in check, but at the cost of rather soft and slightly desaturated images. ISO 200 photos still hold together when printed at up to 11x14 inches, and even ISO 400 images would do a passable wall display, except that the colors come out of the printer looking aged.”

TrustedReviews have reviewed the Pentax Optio W10, a 6 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5 inch LCD and a waterproof body.
“At lower ISO settings the pictures are smooth and sharp, and the improved folded-optics lens provides excellent edge-to-edge detail and almost no distortion even at the widest angle setting. The improved image processing engine is a lot less heavy-handed than that of many similarly-specified cameras, and produces extremely natural colour rendition that are naturally sharp rather than over-sharpened. Focusing and exposure are both very accurate in nearly all lighting conditions, and the built-in flash has excellent coverage and plenty of power, with a maximum range at wide angle of a healthy 3.6 metres.”

Shutterbug have just reviewed the new 10.2 megapixel Nikon D200 digital SLR camera.
“One of the neatest tricks in the D200 book is multi-exposure. It’s a snap to set up and you can even set the Gain (blend) for each shot, which is sort of like Opacity in Layers. I kept Auto Gain on for these shots, done with a technique shown to me by Tony Sweet, which is to make two shots, one in focus and the next slightly out. It opened up a whole new world of floral photography for me.”

Shutterbug have just reviewed the new 80Gb Epson P-4000 photo viewer.
“While you’re traveling the 3.5” screen makes the P-4000 a great “pass-around” device to share images with friends or you can always plug it into a big screen TV (with an optional cable) to show to larger groups so everybody can ooh and aah at the same time. The built-in slide show capability adds pans and dissolves to the presentation, making it look professionally designed and all you have to do is push a few buttons on the Magic Box.”

DigiCamReview have the first online review of the new entry-level Pentax Optio E10, which offers 6.0 megapixels, a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.4-inch LCD monitor.
“The camera is slow to switch on and take photos, being ready in around four seconds. Focusing seemed slow - taking around around 1 second or longer indoors. The playback mode is a bit sluggish, with photos taking a second or two before displaying when going from photo to photo - however the zoom is quite quick. The camera shutter response seemed average when pre-focused, with a response time of around 0.1 - 0.2 seconds. Shot to shot time was very slow, with a delay of around 7 seconds between shots without flash - switching image review off made this around 2 seconds quicker. Thankfully the flash recharge didn’t slow the camera down, and shot to shot time was roughly 7 seconds with flash. The cameras menus seemed fairly quick. On the High Speed continuous shooting mode, shot time is slow, taking a show every 1.6 seconds, at the highest resolution.”

DIWA member and Norwegian website Digit.no have just published their review of the new top of the range 8 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 digital camera.
“The camera has numerous benefits over its predecessors, such as 8.2 MP image resolution, a bright 3” LCD screen with high resolution and wide viewing angle, improved red eye removal technology and a number of options for artistic after-effects. On the other hand, the R927 also has some annoying flaws and design issues. Its stainless steel casing is slippery, there is no optical viewfinder, the battery locking device is a joke, the AF system is less sensitive than before and the AF lamp has virtually no effect. Although the ISO speed is limited to 100-400, colour fringing is quite disturbing, and the macro capacity is rather poor, the R927 delivers surprisingly good overall image quality. The lens’ resolving power, sharpness, distorsion and vignetting is surprisingly good, the colour rendition is excellent and there is virtually no visible noise, even at ISO 400.”

CNET have just reviewed the new 6 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix F470 Zoom digital camera.
“Fujifilm brings us the FinePix F470, yet another compact 6-megapixel camera with a 3X optical zoom lens, a 2.5-inch LCD, and few distinctive features. This middle-of-the-road snapshooter shares the same basic specs as Fujifilm FinePix stablemates, the F10, the F30, and the A600. If you want better videos than the A600 offers and don’t need the higher ISO sensitivity of the F10 or F30, this economical camera may be your best bet from Fujifilm’s crowded lineup.”

DIWA member Steves Digicams have taken a look at the new Pentax Optio A10, which features a shake reduction system, 8 megapixels and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.
“Pentax’s new Optio A10 is the highest resolution compact model they have to offer as of 5/2006, and includes many high-end features like an 8-megapixel imager, 3x optical zoom lens, digital Shake Reduction technology, large 2.5-inch LCD as well as various user friendly exposure modes. This week saw some new information released by Sony about their Alpha DSLR camera and by Panasonic about their DMC-L1 DSLR. Both cameras will be released this year, with Sony aiming to become “the headline performer” and Panasonic just aiming to break into the DSLR market. 20 new lenses for the Alpha camera are promised by Sony in the first year, with full backwards compatibility for the Konica Minolta lens mount system, whilst are offering something completely different in the LC1 with a more range-finder like design. But how successful will either company be when Canon and Nikon effectively have this area of photography sewn up between them? Can Sony succeed where Konica Minolta failed, and can Panasonic build on the success of their popular compact digicams? Shout out now…
