CNET have taken a look at the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T5, an ultra-slim 5.1 megapixel digital camera with 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.
“Considering the large number of 5-megapixel cameras that are on the market, it’s unfortunate that the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-T5 didn’t bring with it better image quality. At its best, the T5 will make good snapshot prints. At its worst, you’ll find limited dynamic range with clipped highlights, blocked shadows, and less than razor-sharp clarity. Details weren’t as evident as we had hoped, and it’s best to set the ISO manually to a lower number; otherwise you’re likely to see some very noticeable visual noise in your shots. Red-eye was often a problem, as it usually is with cameras of the T5’s size, but colors were generally reproduced well, and we saw little purple fringing.”

DigitalCameraInfo have just reviewed the new Olympus mju DIGITAL 800 digicam.
“The Olympus Stylus 800, known in Europe as the µ[mju:] Digital 800, comes equipped with an 8.0 megapixel, 1/1.8-inch CCD and Olympus’ Bright Capture Technology. A member of the long line of Stylus cameras, first introduced to film-based point-and-shooters in 1982, the camera is built for the automatically-reliant crowd with 22 automatic shooting modes. But it also includes several manual controls and a fast burst mode, which should broaden its appeal to more advanced users. Like the rest of Olympus’ Stylus line, the Stylus 800 is weatherproofed with rubber seals within its body. This enables the camera to endure raindrops and splashes, but it certainly can’t be taken swimming.”

“The Epson Stylus Photo R1800 is a fast and versatile wide-carriage photo printer that when used with Epson UltraChrome inks and papers, produces photo lab quality prints that last as long as conventional photo prints. It is capable of printing on a wide range of glossy, semi-gloss, matte and fine art media. It has a top mounted auto sheet feeder for most media, the thicker Velvet Fine Art and Watercolor Paper-Radiant White papers are fed through the rear manual feed slot, one sheet at a time. As seen from our Print Time chart above, the R1800 is a relatively fast printer, capable of making a borderless 4x6” in less than a minute and a large 13x19” glossy print in just over six minutes. In addition to photo prints the R1800 can also make full color photo labels for CD and DVD discs.”

BIOS have reviewed the Epson PictureMate 100 printer, which provides glossy high-quality 6x4 inch prints at £0.19p per photo.
“Epson’s latest photo printer is based on the excellent PictureMate 500 but cuts features in order to slash costs by half. Most noticeable is the fixed, tiny LCD monitor instead of a large flip-up screen and a hashed menu system. Photo quality is still excellent and it retains support for wireless and battery-operated printing, but the PictureMate 100’s unintuitive menu system and small monitor are a real disappointment. If you can live with these shortcomings, you should be very happy with the printer’s water and smudge-proof photos that will stay brilliant for years longer than any other digital printing option. If you can stretch your budget, the PictureMate 500 is a much more user-friendly product.”

TrustedReviews have published their review of the Kodak Easyshare V550, a 5 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom lens and 2.5inch LCD screen.
“The V550 does a particularly good job of coping with high-ISO image noise. The camera offers an ISO range from 80-800, although the highest setting is only available at a resolution of 1.8MP. The camera employs a noise reduction system that trades detail for noise, so high ISO shots are slightly soft, but on the whole the system works very well and 400 ISO shots are still quite usable. The smaller 800 ISO results are not as impressive, with noticeable speckling and colour artefacts right across the image, but as an emergency measure it works passably well.”

DesignTechnica have published their review of the Casio EX-S500, a 5 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom and a 2.2 inch LCD screen.
“I also noticed the camera did a very uneven job with auto focus, something that should be a non-issue in this day and age. As I took snaps, I would review them on the LCD screen, zooming in to see if the focus was sharp. In many instances, it wasn’t. I changed from multipoint to spot focus and back but it really didn’t help. As noted, the LCD is very grainy compared to other slim digicams out there including the recently reviewed Canon Digital ELPHs. Fearing my eyesight was going bad, I checked the image quality on my monitor at home and the focus was still uneven. Some shots were excellent while others went into the Delete bin. The same held true for images in shadows, fluffy kitties and my usual list of subjects. This was very disappointing.”
