Nikon Japan have released a 4K sample video shot entirely on their newest digital SLR camera, the Nikon D7500. Entitled "In Search of Wonder," the official Nikon D7500 sample movie was created using a variety of lenses including the AF-S DX Nikkor 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED (read review), the AF-S DX Nikkor 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR (read review), the AF-S Nikkor 28mm f/1.8G (read review) and the AF-S DX Micro-Nikkor 85mm f/3.5G ED VR (read review). Shot on location in New Zealand at 30fps in 4K UHD (3840×2160px) resolution, the short sample movie includes close-up scenes, time-lapse sequences, and more. The Nikon D7500 is a new APS-C DSLR camera that offers the same image quality as the flagship D500. As with the D500, the D7500’s 20.9 MP DX-format CMOS sensor offers an ISO range that extends to an incredible ISO 1,640,000 equivalent. Video shooters can record 4K/UHD movies, Nikon’s in-camera Electronic Vibration Reduction counters the effects of unwanted camera movement, and there's the chance to shoot at up to 8fps with full AF/AE tracking. Ergonomic improvements include the new tilting monitor that offers touchscreen operation, and a deep grip for a stable, exceptionally comfortable hold, and this is the first Nikon DSLR to boast a built-in flash that supports radio-controlled Advanced Wireless Lighting.

The Nikon D7500 will cost £1,299.99 / €1,549.00 body only or £1,599.99 / €1,899 with the AF-S DX 18-140 f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens.

Polaroid today announced the expansion of their photo studio kit and accessory line-up. The Polaroid digital flash umbrella mount kit features two 6’ air-cushioned heavy-duty light stands made from molded aluminum. Each stand holds up to 15lbs with non-slip legs to prevent movement. To help soften, broaden or diminish light output, the kit’s two attachable umbrellas ship with white satin interiors and include a removable black cover. The two-shoe mount umbrella adapters fit most standard light stands. The corresponding cold shoe mounts hold most shoe mount flashes and provides smooth swivel capabilities that allow photographers to precisely aim lighting. Western Digital today announced the expansion of its G-Technology brand G-Drive storage portfolio with the G-Drive USB-C device. Available in capacities up to 10TB, the G-Drive USB-C device is built to provide expansive capacity for storage of HD videos, photos, music, backups and more in a stylish extruded aluminium enclosure. The drive features the USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface with USB-C connector, and also ships with a USB-C to USB-A cable for compatibility with traditional systems with a USB-A port. The produc will be available to purchase in the US this quarter, in 10TB, 8TB and 4TB capacities, with a Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price of $449.95, $349.95, and $199.95, respectively.

Nikon have released a firmware update for their KeyMission 360 action camera. According to the company, Version 1.3 fixes a bugwhich resulted in connections between the camera and iOS 10.2-compatible versions of the SnapBridge 360/170 app becoming unstable. Leica has found a fix for the faulty auto-focus drive units built into some of their S-system lenses. The company is now offering a free replacement of the autofocus drive unit of the affected lenses "within the terms of a goodwill arrangement." This goodwill arrangement will remain valid for a period of five years from the date of purchase of the respective S-lens. Users can send their defective lenses directly to Leica’s Customer Care or the authorised Customer Care department of their country’s Leica subsidiary.

Fantasea Line is now taking orders for the FA6500, a rugged and stylish underwater housing for the Sony A6500 and A6300 mirrorless cameras. Featuring an ergonomic design with access to all essential camera functions, the Fantasea FA6500 is depth rated to 60 metres / 200 feet, and offers double O-ring protection for a perfect watertight seal. The housing ships with a Moisture Detector and Alarm, a Hand Strap and a Body Cap. The estimated retail price of the Fantasea FA6500 housing is $980.

Canon Europe has acquired Kite.ly, a London-based mobile e-commerce platform specialising in personalised print. Alberto Spinelli, Senior Director of Digital Services at Canon Europe, says: “Bringing Kite.ly into the Canon group of companies is our latest move to expand Canon’s digital services offering, by making mobile printing ubiquitous. There is a fast-growing trend of consumers who want to shop for customised products and do it in an easy way from their mobile devices. Canon have announced that their interchangeable-lens digital cameras (digital SLRs and CSCs) have maintained the No. 1 share of the global market for 14 consecutive years from 2003 to 2016. In 2003, Canon introduced their breakthrough EOS 300D DSLR camera, which was competitively priced and quickly captured the top share of the global market. Canon has continued to launch a range of interchangeable-lens cameras including the professional-model EOS-1D series and the EOS 5D series which paved the way for digital SLR video recording. During 2016, Canon released the EOS 80D for advanced amateur users, the EOS-1D X Mark II for professionals, and the 4K-enabled EOS 5D Mark IV (pictured) for video enthusiasts. Additionally, the company’s interchangeable-lens camera lineup was further expanded with the introduction of the high-end EOS M5 compact-system camera in November. This year, the company launched the Canon EOS M6, EOS 77D and EOS 800D models.

Andrew Gregory, a recently retired police sergeant from Solihull, has been named the winner of a UK-wide photography competition for his shot entitled, "Homeward Bound" (reprinted above). The image will now be used to advertise Calumet Photographic’s forthcoming Open Days, which will be taking place at its stores nationwide. As a result of winning the competition, Andrew has also been given £250 worth of Calumet Gift Cards to spend on equipment. Interestingly, the winning image was taken on a second-hand Canon EOS10D. “This year our theme was all about finding a shot which encapsulated a unique moment in time,” says Jon Warner, Managing Director of Calumet Photographic. “Andrew’s Homeward Bound image was completely unique and captivating. Sony has updated its medium-format sensor roadmap. The company is planning to launch a 44x33mm, 100-megapixel back-illuminated sensor (IMX461), as well as a 55x41mm (645 format), 150-megapixel back-illuminated imager in both full-colour and monochromatic editions (IMX411) in 2018. THe roadmap also reveals that a monochromatic version of the existing front-illuminated, 100-megapixel IMX211 sensor - which lies at the heart of the Phase One XF 100 camera system - will be released later this year.

The Canon EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM is a stabilised macro lens with built-in LED lights. The Canon PowerShot SX730 HS is a new compact travelzoom camera with a 20.3-megapixel CMOS sensor and a 24-960mm equivalent zoom lens. With  features such as a convenient Self-Portrait and Smooth Skin mode, 3.0-inch LCD screen that rotates up 180 degrees and built-in connectivity capabilities like Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth technology, the Canon PowerShot SX730 HS is a successor to the PowerShot SX720 HS digital compact camera. In addition to capturing 20-megapixel stills, the new Canon SX730 HS can also record Full HD movies at 60 frampes per second.
