About the Author

James is an award winning Peak District landscape photographer, who lives just a short distance from the National Park’s border in the former spa town of Matlock.

He first took up photography in 2008 and within months had taken his first national award-winning photograph for Trail magazine and the Keswick Mountain Festival with his image ‘The Last Push’ featuring a friend and rock climber, ascending a bouldering route on Ramshaw Rocks. The image was judged by acclaimed rock climber, Leo Houlding.

James then went on to win the 2010 Peak District Photography Competition in association with the Buxton Festival with his image of a lone walker on Kinder Scout, titled ‘A Kinder Wonderland’.
He has a passion for the outdoors, walking and photography. He has extensively visited areas in the UK and broadened his horizons visiting other counties, but home is where his heart is.

James has worked with Visit Peak District as a Destination Photography Partner since 2010 and has also undertaken regular commissions for the JD Sports Group which includes portfolios such as Blacks Outdoors and Ultimate Outdoors. His work has also taken him to an international level, working on a commission for Monarch Airlines in Cyprus.

James regularly contributes to photography magazines and writes a monthly article for the Derbyshire Magazine. Quite often, he has viewpoint guides featured in Outdoor Photography.
