Peter Sellers: Behind the Camera

Photographs taken by actor Peter Sellers have gone on display in a unique retrospective exhibition to help raise money for the British Heart Foundation’s Nation of Lifesavers campaign. Curated by Sellers’ daughter, Sarah, and Sarah’s daughter Emily, Peter Sellers: Behind the Camera comprises 50 rare images either taken by the artist himself, or which relate to his photographic career. The week-long exhibition, which runs until Sunday 1st November, includes images of some of the most famous faces of the 60s and 70s including Nanette Newman, Ringo Starr, Liza Minnelli, Sophia Loren, Tessa Dahl and Charles Aznavour, as well as photographs of the Royal Family. Many of these images will be on sale in an online auction as well as a limited-edition photographic catalogue.

Exhibition and auction will help raise funds for BHF’s Nation of Lifesavers campaign
Photographs taken by one of the world’s greatest comedy actors, Peter Sellers, have gone on display in a unique retrospective exhibition at 19 Beauchamp Place to help raise money for the British Heart Foundation’s Nation of Lifesavers campaign.
Curated by Sellers’ daughter, Sarah, and Sarah’s daughter Emily, Peter Sellers: Behind the Camera comprises of 50 rare images either taken by the artist himself, or which relate to his photographic career. Many of these images will be on sale in an online auction at https://givergy.com/charity/british-heart-foundation-peter-sellers as well as a limited edition photographic catalogue.
Proceeds from both will go towards the British Heart Foundation’s Nation of Lifesavers campaign, to teach everyone how to perform life saving CPR and have the skills to intervene when someone suffers a cardiac arrest.
The week-long exhibition, which runs until Sunday 1st November, includes images of some of the most famous faces of the 60s and 70s including Nanette Newman, Ringo Starr, Liza Minnelli, Sophia Loren, Tessa Dahl and Charles Aznavour, as well as photographs of the Royal Family.
Among the images is one of Peter’s good friend, South African heart transplant pioneer Dr Christiaan Barnard, taken in 1976.
Peter suffered a series of near-fatal heart attacks in 1964. His son Michael died of a heart attack in July 2006, 26 years after his father died from the same cause.
Sarah said: “I wanted to find a way to celebrate my father’s life, his family and his love of photography. Peter Sellers: Behind the Camera in support of the British Heart Foundation is the result. We really hope that the public enjoy it. We think it is something he would have been very proud of.”
