Photo London has announced the list of participating galleries for the third edition of the Fair, taking place 18 – 21 May 2017 at Somerset House (pictured). Building on the success of the previous two editions, Photo London 2017 will showcase the best in contemporary photography to a growing international audience of collectors and enthusiasts. The 86 galleries exhibiting in 2017 were selected by an expert Curatorial Committee led by Philippe Garner, Former Director at Christie’s and International Head of Photographs and 20th Century Decorative Arts and Design at Christie’s. As a result of their work, the third edition of the Fair includes galleries from 17 different countries: Austria; Australia; Azerbaijan; Belgium; Canada, Chile, France; Germany; Iceland; Italy; Japan; Spain; Switzerland; Turkey; United Arab Emirates; UK and USA. To its established mix of galleries featuring all forms of photography from the dawn of the medium to the present day, Photo London has this year added a number of leading contemporary galleries including Victoria Miro, Sprüth Magers and Alison Jacques Gallery. Photo London 2017 also features an expanded 'Discovery' section – a showcase for emerging galleries, publishers and artists, curated for the first time by Art Consultant and Curator Tristan Lund. The 2017 Discovery galleries include Cob Gallery (London), BERG Contemporary (Reykjavík), EUQINOMprojects (San Francisco) and Rubber Factory (New York), and the section will feature works by some of the world's leading young artists including Asger Carlsen, Waheeda Malullah, Thomas Albdorf, and Laura Pannack.

Photo London has announced the list of participating galleries for the third edition of the Fair, taking place 18 – 21 May 2017 (Preview 17 May) at Somerset House. Building on the success of the previous two editions, Photo London 2017 will showcase the best in contemporary photography to a growing international audience of collectors and enthusiasts intrigued by the rich history of the medium and its future directions.

The 86 galleries exhibiting in 2017 were selected by an expert Curatorial Committee led by Philippe Garner, Former Director at Christie’s and International Head of Photographs and 20th Century Decorative Arts and Design at Christie’s. As a result of their work, the third edition of the Fair includes galleries from 17 different countries: Austria; Australia; Azerbaijan; Belgium; Canada, Chile, France; Germany; Iceland; Italy; Japan; Spain; Switzerland; Turkey; United Arab Emirates; UK and USA. In line with Photo London's mission to establish itself as the key global destination for all those interested in the past, present and future of photography, the brief to all galleries has been to showcase early photographic gems, new work by established masters and work that signals new directions in the development of the form, including moving image and virtual reality as well as works featuring high levels of technical experimentation.
Photo London has also announced multidisciplinary artist Taryn Simon will be this year's Photo London Master of Photography – an award given annually to a leading contemporary photographer. Guided by an interest in systems of categorisation and classification, Simon’s practice involves extensive research into the power and structure of secrecy and the precarious nature of survival. Simon’s works have been the subject of exhibitions at Galerie Rudolfinum, Prague (2016), Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow (2016), Jeu de Paume, Paris (2015), Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing (2013); Museum of Modern Art, New York (2012); Tate Modern, London (2011); Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin (2011); and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2007). Photo London, in association with Gagosian, will present a special exhibition of her work at Somerset House as part of the Fair’s Public Programme, and Simon will also feature in the Fair’s Talks Programme, which is once again curated by distinguished author and curator William A. Ewing with details to be announced in February 2017.

Exploring the boundaries between photography and art, and investigating the future of photography, is a key element of the Fair and will be the focus of Photo London’s extensive Public Programme. Large-scale exhibitions will be presented throughout Somerset House combining still and moving image, and new technologies. Isaac Julien will present a major work never before exhibited in London. Magnum Photos will present an exhibition of English documentary photographer and Magnum member David Hurn’s personal photography collection, which he compiled by swapping his work with other photographers. Curated by fellow Magnum member, Martin Parr, the exhibition will present a mix of contemporary works from Magnum members and non-Magnum photographers, and will be part of a year-long programme to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Magnum Photos. The Public Programme will also include projects exploring the fast-developing world of virtual reality and its relationship to photography, with more details to be announced soon.

An international selection of nine publishers reflect the richness of the medium today, including London Stereoscopic Company, who revive Victorian virtual reality, and MACK, who will be showcasing the winner of the 2017 First Book Award.
