The “Photographs of the Year” competition, open to all professional photographers residing in Europe, is now open for entries. There are fifteen categories plus a “Young Talent” competition, open to individuals having less than one year of activity as a professionnal photographer and under the age of 25 on 1 of January 2012. The contest is sponsored by Nikon, who offered a total of €10,000 worth of photo equipment to the winners. The submission deadline is 15 January 2012.

« Photographs of the Year », the only contest open to all professional photographers

Since 2009, the A3PF and its sponsors have awarded the most beautiful photographs taken by professionals, during the past year.

In March 2012, photographs taken between the 1st of January and the 31st of December 2011 will be awarded.

There will be fifteen categories, allowing the best of professionnal photography in Europe to be seen. In addition there will be a Photograph of the Year and the honor trophy. So, in total 17 trophies which will be handed over in March 2012, during a ceremony bringing together the 45 finalists (3 by category), the sponsors, the press and the world of photography in France and Europe.

10 000 euros of Nikon equipment to the winner!

The contest of the Photographs of the Year aims to promote professionnal photographers and to recognise their ability and savoir-faire. Nikon, which has had an active policy of supporting professionnal photographers for a long time, chose to sponsor the prizes of the «Photograph of the Year» and the «Young Talent». Nikon has renewed its involvment for the edition of 2011/2012 and will again offer 10 000 euros of Nikon equipment to the winner of the Photograph of the Year, taken in 2011.

All of european photography will be represented, from animal to sports photography, through photographs of press and nature. Without forgetting the best photographs of cusine, architecture, wedding, shows.

The new generation of photographers is not forgotten. The young talent photography is restricted to photographers having less than one year of activity as a professionnal photographer and under the age of 25 at the 1st of January 2012. This category is also open to students in photography, aged at least 18 and less than 25 at the 1st of January. The theme is open for this category.

The winning photographs will be judged by a jury of five individuals from the world of photography : photographers, but also journalists or other professionnals of the image.

Prizes and a high visibility

As well as the successsful photographers being invited to a prize-giving ceremony, they will also have their photographs shown in an exhibition which will tour France. Initially with the sponsors of the event, and then in several festivals.

A book showing the 15 winning photographs and the finalist photographs of each category will be published, with a full portfolio from the honored photographer.

Without sponsors, this contest would not exist. Thanks to Nikon : its unfailing support since the creation has been essential. Escourbiac remains an important sponsor. The three first editions of the book of the Photographs of the Year were kindly printed by them.

A book of the Photographs of the Year 2009 (collector’s edition) will be offered to the first ten photographers of each european country who send their photographs before the 31st of December 2011. The book is worth 25 euros.

The photographs must be sent before 15 January 2012.
