PhotoKey 5

UK software developer FXhome has released PhotoKey 5, a professional post-production tool which enables photographers to remove green screen backgrounds from studio shots. Version 5 has a completely new Chroma Key system and, whilst it remains simple to use, gives users the best results possible by addressing many of the problem areas associated with other green screen solutions, the company claims. Enhancements in PhotoKey 5 include the addition of a new Chroma Key filter, which provides a more powerful keying algorithm than the existing Auto Colour Difference Key, as well as a new spill suppression technique for more realistic composites. Fully licensed backgrounds and overlays are included as standard, and the Pro version includes a new bilateral blur filter and support for multiple background images. PhotoKey 5 will be available to buy from 19th April for both Mac and Windows PC and will retail at $149 (£97.50) for the standard version and at $299 (£195) for the Pro version.

Green screen removal gets even better with PhotoKey 5
The leading green screen removal software for professional and amateur photographers, PhotoKey, is set to be released in a new, updated version 5 for Mac and Windows PC this month.
Produced by leading UK software developer and consultancy firm FXhome, PhotoKey 5 is a professional post-production tool which enables photographers to broaden their horizons beyond traditional image creation through the replacement of green screen backgrounds.
The new version of the software includes many enhancements. PhotoKey 5 has a completely new Chroma Key system and, whilst it remains simple to use, gives users the best results possible by addressing many of the problem areas associated with other green screen solutions.
Joshua Davies, Founder of FXhome, explained: “The removal of green screen has presented users with some technical issues for some time with many software solutions presenting poor results particularly when keying hair, glass and other difficult subjects.
“This was never a serious problem with PhotoKey, but we have listened to what the photographic community has been saying and designed new features to ensure that the new version of the software gives the very best results possible.”
Enhancements in PhotoKey 5 include the addition of a new Chroma Key filter, which provides a more powerful keying algorithm than the existing Auto Colour Difference Key, as well as a new spill suppression technique for more realistic composites.
Alongside improved performance, another key improvement is a streamlined user interface, which incorporates an online Home Screen which highlights updates, free video tutorials and a newly improved Help section.
Fully licensed backgrounds and overlays are included as standard, and the Pro version includes a new bilateral blur filter and an integrated email feature that enables users to automatically email clients or to publish images on Facebook and Flickr. The Pro version also offers support for multiple background images.
FXhome has been specialising in video and photo products, web design and bespoke third party solutions since 2001 and has produced other products including the filmmaking software HitFilm.
Joshua commented: “PhotoKey has proved to be massively popular with professional and amateur photographers alike, both here in the UK and in the United States. Not only does it provide the scope to be more creative and inventive with images, but its power, ease of use and state-of-the-art Chroma Key filtering means we believe the latest version will continue to lead the field in offering the best solution in green screen technology.”
PhotoKey 5 will be available to buy online at www.fxhome.com from 19 April for both Mac and Windows PC and will retail at $149 (£97.50) for the standard version and at $299 (£195) for the Pro version. Upgrade packages will also be available to owners of PhotoKey 3 and upwards.
