PhotoShelter is now accepting submissions for Elevation 2008, the company’s first annual student-to-pro award and competition. Elevation 2008 provides the next generation of professional photographers an opportunity to gain exposure to some of the most influential and discriminating eyes in publishing. Judges will select five winners who best demonstrate their unique perspective as an artist and the ability to produce commercially viable images. Elevation 2008 is open to all students currently enrolled in domestic and international colleges and universities.

PHOTOSHELTER ANNOUNCES ELEVATION 2008: FIRST ANNUAL STUDENT PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST
Open To All Full-Time College and University Students; Judges from New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, Spin, The Fader & Nylon
New York, NY, March 13, 2008 – The PhotoShelter Collection, a marketplace for the world’s freshest and most diverse stock photography, today announced it is now accepting submissions for Elevation 2008, the company’s first annual student-to-pro award and competition. Judged by photo editors and art directors from five of the nation’s most notable publications, Elevation 2008 provides the next generation of professional photographers an opportunity to gain exposure to some of the most influential and discriminating eyes in publishing. Five grand prize winners will receive a portfolio - professionally developed, prepared, and critiqued – from the event’s sponsors, as well as additional recognition as a featured photographer in the PhotoShelter Collection’s May 2008 Editor’s Showroom.
Judges will select five winners who best demonstrate their unique perspective as an artist and the ability to produce commercially viable images. Photo editors at the PhotoShelter Collection will narrow the initial field of submissions to 100 semi-finalists. The semi-finalists submissions will then be reviewed and judged by recognized industry leaders, including Paul Moakley the senior photo editor of Newsweek, Phil Bicker the creative director for The Fader, Michelle Egiziano the director of photography for Spin Magazine, Michele Outland the art director for Nylon Magazine along with Stephen Walker the director of photography at Nylon Magazine, and Clinton Cargill the photo editor for the New York Times Magazine.
The five grand prize winners will receive a comprehensive package to kick start their careers, including a custom 11x14 portfolio with name embossed, courtesy of Brewer-Cantelmo, 30 free portfolio quality prints from AdoramaPix, and 100 promo cards designed and printed by SB Design. Winners will also receive a one-on-one portfolio review with a PhotoShelter Editor, and a 3-month free PhotoShelter Personal Archive Standard Account for help with image storage, protection, and sales (a $90 value). Winners will be featured in the May PhotoShelter Editor’s Showroom, which is emailed to thousands of image buyers who use the PhotoShelter Collection to find exceptional stock photography.

Elevation 2008 is open to all students currently enrolled in domestic and international colleges and universities. To submit images for consideration, a contestant must have 25 or more images submitted to the PhotoShelter Collection before April 16, 2008 and the images must be accepted and live by April 21, 2008. All entrants who are accepted to Elevation 2008 will have the opportunity to sell their images through the PhotoShelter Collection, which is free to join, and photographers keep 70% of every transaction – the industry’s largest share provided to photographers.
