Picajet RoboImport
PicaJet Press Release
Picajet is proud to announce the release of RoboImport. This is a powerful, but intuitive, solution for digital camera users at all levels from novice to professional. The major problem encountered by anyone who stores their photos on a PC is: How to import and organize a rapidly growing library of photographs in a logical and easy to access manner. Professional photographers will be especially interested in the RoboImport features that streamline and efficiently automate their digital image processing workflow. RoboImport takes an innovative approach to this camera to PC image transfer problem. It automatically starts up, downloads images from the camera, renames them and transfers them to a well organized folder structure according to a preselected naming scheme. When RoboImport file transfer is complete another application, such as the PicaJet Photo Organizer, can be automatically started.
RoboImport will re-organize an existing jumble of folders and files into a logical and clearly understood folder structure. Most importantly, it will maintain the structure when it downloads new photos from the camera using a built in or custom image transfer scheme. Image files could, for example, be organized according to file type, date taken, location, camera used or even grouped by event type such as “Birthdays”. A combination of these categories, and others, is normally used and forms the basis of the folder and file naming schemes available in RoboImport.
By default, RoboImport transfers images to chronologically organized folders and renames them according to one of the RoboImport built-in file and folder renamer schemes. If none of these are suitable a RoboImport custom renamer scheme can easily be designed.
Of special interest is the RoboImport preview feature. The folder structure resulting from a selected renamer scheme can displayed before any real changes are made on the system. Once the renamer scheme is set up, image transfer from the camera to the correct folder locations and with correct filenames is entirely automatic.
But that’s not all. RoboImport can perform a wide range of useful batch processes while it is transferring and organizing the image files. For example, the lossless auto-rotate feature uses image EXIF orientation information to ensure that all photos are correctly oriented. The EXIF image data is, of course, updated to correctly reflect the re-oriented images.
RoboImport supports the camera RAW file format as used by many professional photographers. Users can set up a RoboImport renamer scheme to automatically convert the RAW files to Adobe DNG format and delete the original RAW files after checking for successful file conversion. During this process IPTC/XMP data and JPEG preview files are embedded into the DNG file and the original file datestamp is preserved.
RoboImport will transfer the RAW and converted DNG files to a separate series of folders if required. This ability to segregate image types extends to other image file types as well. Video, Raw, DNG and JPG files can all be automatically transferred to their own separate folders and renamed appropriately. Another useful batch feature is the ability to add users own IPTC copyright and subject information to the images during file transfer.
The creators of RoboImport are aware that many users like to keep track of where their photographs were taken and so have included a smart feature to allow RoboImport to read GPS log files and tag image files with location information.
Many of us neglect to backup our valuable data because of the extra effort involved and so PicaJet have included a comprehensive solution to the image file backup issue. RoboImport has a fully automatic data backup capability with options to save backups to various locations, such as USB or Firewire writable media or a second system hard drive. This multi level file backup system, together with the data transfer Rollback Manager, ensures maximum possible image data security without any extra effort on the part of the user. As a further data safe guard, Picajet have added features to RoboImport that prevent image files being accidentally overwritten.
Import of images from a wide range of cameras and other devices is supported, including direct import from the Canon range.
RoboImport runs under Windows 98, 2000, XP, ME, 2003 and Vista.
