PinPoint Helps Photographers Combat Focus Hunting

PinPoint is a laser-aided system, which helps photographers combat focus hunting by allowing them to assist a camera’s AF system and make sure that the camera focuses on what they want it to, even in low-contrast conditions. When the photographer is ready to take the photo, he or she presses the activator button and PinPoint emits a narrow pulsing green light beam. The camera’s auto focus then quickly zeroes in on the light to acquire focus. The photographer can control the length of time the light is visible. PinPoint helps with low light conditions, monochromatic surfaces, picking subjects out of a crowd, macro photography, or when a photographer’s field of view is obscured. Made by DeluxGear, PinPoint will be unveiled at their distributor, International Supplies’, booth #732 at the 2011 WPPI show.

International Supplies and DeluxGear to Unveil New System at 2011 WPPI
Inglewood, CA (For Immediate Release) — Focus hunting is by far one of the biggest issues for all photographers, which is why attendees at the upcoming 2011 WPPI will be enthralled when they hear about International Supplies’ newest find. It is a laser-aided system, called PinPoint, which helps photographers eliminate focus hunt as a problem by allowing users to assist a camera’s auto focusing function and make sure that the camera focuses on what they want it to, despite low contrast conditions. Made by DeluxGear, leading providers in camera lens covers and accessories, PinPoint will be unveiled at their distributor, International Supplies’, booth #732 at the show.
PinPoint is extremely easy to use. When the photographer is ready to take the photo, he or she presses the activator button and PinPoint emits a narrow pulsing green light beam. The camera’s auto focus then quickly zeroes in on the light to acquire focus. If a photographer is focusing manually, he or she just focuses on the pinpoint of light. The photographer can control the length of time the light is visible. PinPoint helps with low light conditions, monochromatic surfaces, picking subjects out of a crowd, macro photography, or when a photographer’s field of view is obscured.
“When a photographer experiences difficulty focusing, it can make or break a photo and most often, photographers will not even know that a photo is out of focus until it is too late to fix it,” says Tom Nickell, the CEO of DeluxGear. “With PinPoint, photographers can be confident that they are capturing crisp, clear photos of those once-in-a-lifetime moments. In fact, we purposely called it PinPoint because of its spot on accuracy in making sure that the subject photographers want in focus, is in focus.”
The PinPoint also provides additional benefits. It can serve as a sighting tool for frame alignment. Photographers can now easily identify the center of a shot without needing to look through the viewfinder. The laser can acquire focus lock up to 160 feet away in daylight and even further at night. PinPoint also eliminates the need to use a flash for IR or white light pre-focus. It has a universal mount so it can be used with all cameras, both DSLR and point-and-shoot. Photographers attach it either to the camera’s body, the battery pack, the tripod collar or the tripod’s quick release plate. Because the laser itself is coming from the bottom of the camera, the PinPoint is equipped with an azimuth adjustment that enables users to put the light in the center of their frame, no matter the distance to the subject, or they can lock-in focus with the desired subject in the middle of the frame and then change the composition of the shot. Either way, with PinPoint, the photographer controls where the camera will focus. It is ideal for prosumer and professional photographers who shoot in low light conditions, or work with wildlife, nature and landscape, weddings, family events and macro photography.
The focus hunting system is extremely small and compact. It weighs approximately six ounces, and is 2.84”L x 3.0”W x 1” H in size so it can easily be stored in a camera bag, a photo vest, or even in a user’s pocket. The laser is a Class 2 diode, rated as safe under normal use, and safety is enhanced further due to its pulsing nature. It is as safe as in-store scanners. The unit is powered by two E-90, 3 volt batteries, which are not included with the unit. With standard usage, the battery will last approximately six months. However, the lifecycle of the laser itself is 5,000 hours. PinPoint comes in a velvet bag for easy storage and with a one year warranty.
