Apple iOS devices employ the standard EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) that incorporates TIFF, JPEG, and RIFF WAV formats, and also includes provisions for metadata tags. Geotagging, the inclusion of latitude and longitude data in the metadata of a digital photo, has grown increasingly popular, particularly as recent smartphones are including GPS or WiFi location finding as a standard feature. Online photo sharing sites such as Panoramio, locr, and Flickr all allow the inclusion and display of geolocation data. In addition, iPhoto, Google Maps, Flickr and MobileMe make it possible to view photos on a map, and sort them by location. However, none yet includes the camera’s compass heading/direction.
