Mannheim-based daemgen.net has released ProCamera 2.95 for iOS, which now stores both location and directional metatags with each photo. Version 2.95 allows users to save the exact GPS location from which the photo was taken, plus the precise compass direction in which the camera was pointed. The developer warns that while the app is compatible with a variety of camera-equipped iOS devices, only the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 - which have an integrated gyrocompass - can make use of the new direction recording feature. ProCamera 2.95 is $2.99 and available exclusively through the App Store in the Photography category.

ProCamera 2.95 for iOS Saves Both Position and Direction Info with Photo

Germany-based daemgen.net today announces ProCamera 2.95 for iOS, a major update to its best-selling photography app that now stores both location finding and directional metatags with each photo. A boon for architects, civil engineers, film location scouts, realtors, Feng-Shui and Vastu Shastra consultants, insurance adjusters, and law enforcement, the user may now save the exact GPS location from which the photo was taken, plus the precise compass direction in which the camera was pointed.

Mannheim, Germany - daemgen.net today is pleased to announce ProCamera 2.95 for iOS, a major update to its best-selling photography app that now stores both location finding and directional metatags with each photo. A boon for architects, civil engineers, film location scouts, realtors, Feng-Shui and Vastu Shastra consultants, insurance adjusters, and law enforcement, the user may now save the exact GPS location from which the photo was taken, plus the precise compass direction in which the camera was pointed. Photos taken with compatible iOS devices may now be used for detailed documentation and presentations.

Apple iOS devices employ the standard EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) that incorporates TIFF, JPEG, and RIFF WAV formats, and also includes provisions for metadata tags. Geotagging, the inclusion of latitude and longitude data in the metadata of a digital photo, has grown increasingly popular, particularly as recent smartphones are including GPS or WiFi location finding as a standard feature. Online photo sharing sites such as Panoramio, locr, and Flickr all allow the inclusion and display of geolocation data. In addition, iPhoto, Google Maps, Flickr and MobileMe make it possible to view photos on a map, and sort them by location. However, none yet includes the camera’s compass heading/direction. ProCamera 2.95 will most likely have a positive influence on the addition of this useful geospatial data.

Feature Highlights (some features require iPhone 3GS or 4):
* Save both location and compass heading metadata with digital photos
* Capture high quality photos & videos in full size and full resolution
* Get the sharpest and brightest photos possible with adjustable Anti-Shake image stabilizer
* Snap several photos in quick succession - fastest image caching in full resolution for shooting many photos with minimal reload-times
* Zoom in with ultra-fast swipe control (5x full resolution)
* Supports iOS 4 multitasking enabling picture taking immediately after re-opening the app
* Touch-up photos using built-in tools: brightness, contrast, gamma, effects, etc.
* Set focus and exposure separately in expert mode to create perfect photos and videos
* Use the White Balance button to lock the current color temperature to match the ambient light situation

While ProCamera is compatible with a wide range of camera equipped iOS devices, only the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, which have an integrated gyrocompass, can make use of the new direction recording feature. The Version 2.95 update includes the following features: geotagging + map/satellite view + compass heading; full EXIF data storage; 3x faster saving (with iOS 4.1); expert mode now has improved visibility by turning the exposure box 45 degrees; for better usability the zoom slider now only works in the bottom area; full iPod touch 4th generation support; and optimized for iOS 4.1 and fully compatible with iOS 4.0.x.

“Apple has integrated a compass into the iPhone 3GS and the new iPhone 4, which has made this new innovation possible. Curiously, almost nobody has ever stored compass information along with photos before,” stated Jens Daemgen, head of development at daemgen.net. “A new trend in digital photography will emerge when people start realizing the enormous benefits of this feature - Geotagging 2.0.”
