ProxelProxel Software Press Release

Proxel Lens Corrector 1.1, Now for Mac OS X (2006-12-16) - Proxel Software HB has released the Mac version of the software toolkit Proxel Lens Corrector. Knowing that serious photographers use both Mac and Windows machines, Proxel decided to port its Windows version of the toolkit to Mac OS X. The toolkit consists of two tools. The first tool uses calibration photos to analyze the distortion of the lens. The second tool is a Photoshop plugin that can be used to remove distortion from all your pictures, using the result from the analysis.

The most outstanding feature of this toolkit is that you can, with high accuracy, easily measure and correct any lens you own. You can do this regardless of kind of lens, e.g. it can be a third party wide angle converter used on your P&S camera. There does not exist any competing affordable tool that can accomplish this and there does not exist any tool (regardless of cost) that can do it so easily.

Another outstanding feature of the tool is the clever canvas rescaling feature. This feature both makes it very fast and comfortable to work with the tool and it also ensures optimal quality. The fully automatic choice of optimal canvas size makes it much faster to work with the tool. The rescaling of the canvas, rather than the picture, ensures optimal quality in the important central parts of the picture. The real time preview shows you how the resulting image will look and you can also directly see the resulting size of the final image.

The tool is very useful for P&S cameras as the zoom lenses on those cameras always have distortion, mostly visible in the wide angle setting. But all zoom lenses, even the expensive ones for DSLR cameras, have distortion. We believe this to be a valuable tool for anyone interested in optimal image quality.

Apart from correcting distortion in lenses, the tool can also be used for getting rectilinear pictures from your fisheye lenses. Thus you can buy a much cheaper and smaller lens and still get outstanding results. Using a corrected fisheye you can even get a rectilinear lens with wider view than is possible to purchase.

The Lens Corrector Photoshop plugin can take both 8 and 16 bit color depth images, so it is suitable for your digital camera photos, both for JPEG but also for your high quality RAW work flow. The plugin is tested on Photoshop 6, 7, CS, CS2 and Elements 4 for Windows and Photoshop 7, CS and CS2 for Mac OS X.
