The winners of the Red Bull Illume sports photography competition will be revealed to the world at the Red Bull Illume 2016 Winner Award Ceremony in Chicago on 28th September. The event will be held at The Art Institute of Chicago, followed by a short stroll to Millennium Park where the images will be unveiled for the very first stop of the Red Bull Illume Exhibit Tour. The Top 55 images will all be displayed on life-sized 2x2m light boxes – showcasing the work in the glory it deserves. The exhibition will stay in Chicago until 9 October 2016 before the Red Bull Illume Exhibit Tour moves on to its next stop.

Red Bull Illume Winners to be Announced in Chicago

The winners of the world’s greatest action and adventure sports photography contest will be revealed to the world at a spectacular Winner Award Ceremony in the Windy City.

The Red Bull Illume winners are set to be unveiled. The Overall Winner, 11 Category Winners and Top 55 finalists will all be announced at the Red Bull Illume 2016 Winner Award Ceremony in Chicago on September 28, 2016. The spectacular event will be held at The Art Institute of Chicago, followed by a short stroll to Millennium Park where the images will be unveiled for the very first stop of the Red Bull Illume Exhibit Tour. 

The prestigious ceremony will be a big celebration with many guests and key players in the photography industry from around the world. It’s the culmination of a long wait for the 5.645 photographers from 120 countries who submitted 34.624 mind-blowing images to Red Bull Illume.

It promises to be a unique occasion, with the spotlight turned on photographers whose remarkable images represent the best in action and adventure sports photography. The Top 55 images will all be displayed on life-sized 2x2m light boxes – showcasing the work in the glory it deserves. The exhibition will stay in Chicago until October 9, 2016 before the Red Bull Illume Exhibit Tour moves on to its next stop.

The 53 Red Bull Illume judges are also currently getting set to showcase their selection of awe-inspiring images to the public – an amazing selection of action and adventure sports shots snapped in exotic locations around the world. Founder and editor-in-chief of The Outdoor Journal, and Red Bull Illume judge, Apoorva Prasad said he is looking for an image that meets more than the basic requirements such as composition, lighting and emotion. “At a deeper level, the image should also show an understanding of the history of visual arts and its effect on culture, society, people,” he says.

As an extra opportunity Red Bull Illume is set to introduce a National Mobile Contest to mobile photographers across the USA. This brand new endeavor gives mobile users the opportunity to enter their best mobile phone images and stand a chance to see their picture join the Red Bull Illume Exhibit Tour on all USA stops.

The overall US Mobile Contest winner will also be invited to the Red Bull Illume Winner Award Ceremony and have the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the biggest names in the photography scene. After submissions close, a panel of esteemed judges will select the top pictures, which will then be displayed on stunning light boxes and travel to cultural hubs and hotspots in the USA alongside the exceptional images of their peers on the Red Bull Illume Exhibit Tour.
