Ricoh Press Release
Ricoh releases third function-enhancing firmware update for GR DIGITAL II
Tokyo, Japan - November 26 - Ricoh Co., Ltd. (President and CEO: Shiro Kondo) announced today that it will release on November 27 the third function-enhancing firmware update for its GR DIGITAL II, a high-resolution compact digital camera launched in November 2007.
Successor model to the GR DIGITAL, which proved very popular in the two years following its October 2005 launch, the compact GR DIGITAL II achieves a level of image quality capable of satisfying professional photographers, experienced amateurs, and photo aficionados. Ricoh’s function-enhancing firmware updates are developed in response to opinions and requests received from a large number of customers via GR BLOG, surveys submitted at customer registration time, etc. They make it possible to update already purchased GR DIGITAL II cameras with the latest functions. This is the third release of function-enhancing firmware for the GR DIGITAL II; the first release took place on March 27, 2008, and the second on July 24, 2008.
*For the predecessor GR DIGITAL model, there was a total of five releases beginning from March 24, 2006. Those releases were downloaded by many users and were very well received.
The function-enhancing firmware and instructions for using these functions can be downloaded free of charge from the Ricoh website.
(1) It is now possible to use the AF target shift function in normal modes.
The AF target shift function was previously available only in macro mode, but now it can be used in other modes as well.
(2) It is now possible to set the Fn (Function) button to the AF target shift function.
The AF target shift function can now be operated using not only the ADJ. lever, but also the Fn (Function) button.
(3) It is now possible to register manual exposure mode aperture value and shutter speed settings in My Settings.
A shutter speed and aperture value for use in manual exposure mode can now be set in “Reg. My Settings.” This is convenient when you want to instantly switch to a fixed exposure so it is extremely useful in situations where you know the exposure in advance, such as during night shooting and when an external flash is used.
(4) The “Quick Set” function has been expanded to include exposure settings for manual exposure mode.
Using the “M Mode Quick Set” settings, the aperture value and shutter speed for manual exposure mode can now be automatically set at approximately the correct values with a single button push.
This setting can be selected from aperture priority mode (aperture value fixed and shutter speed adjusted), shutter priority mode (shutter speed fixed and aperture value adjusted), and program mode (both aperture value and shutter speed adjusted).
