River Stories, Unseen Landscapes is an exhibition by London artist Mandy Williams. Work on display will be taken from her Riverbed Stories photographs and video which document the riverbeds beside the industrial areas of Erith, South London and Dartford, Kent, and show the environmental damage to these places of natural beauty. Photographs from this series have previously been shown at the RWA Bristol, Kinsale Arts Festival, Ireland, and the Deptford X Fringe, London, and her video was recently shortlisted for the British Women’s Artist award 2016. She will also be showing for the first time some photographs from Unseen Landscapes which use Google StreetView as a starting point to create somewhere otherworldly.
Williams has created beautifully crafted portraits of the land which also prompt the viewer to think about their own interaction and connection with the world around them, Cary Benbow, Editor, Wobneb Magazine, March 2016
Williams’ photography and video often refers to place and specifically sites in transition. Her interest in the psychology of place has been a catalyst for both autobiographical and voyeuristic projects, documentary approaches to more conceptual ones. Her photography of the environment is rarely passive, but shares an underlying narrative about human interaction or presence.
Show opens 17 June. Artist will be in residence 17, 18, 20, 21, 22 June 11am – 5pm
