RPS International Print Exhibition 157 Winners Announced

The winners of the world’s longest running photography exhibition have been announced. Student, amateur and professional photographers from around the world were invited to enter their images to The Royal Photographic Society’s International Print Exhibition 157, and over 6,600 images were submitted. The five award winners are Jacqueline Roberts (Germany), William Lakin (UK), Mandy Barker ARPS (UK), Tamara Staples (USA) and Damien Wootten (UK). The exhibition at Berkeley Gallery, Greenwich Heritage Centre, Woolwich, runs until  28 August 2014 before moving on to venues around the United Kingdom.  All the selected images will be posted on the RPS website at the beginning of August. The RPS International Print Exhibition 157 - winners announced

Bath – 31 July 2014. The winners of The Royal Photographic Society’s International Print Exhibition 157 – the world’s longest running photography exhibition - have been announced. Student, amateur and professional photographers from around the world were invited to enter their images to the competition and over 6,600 images were submitted from 1,727 photographers in 72 countries. From the shortlisted prints, just 100 were selected for the exhibition. The selected photographers represent 23 countries.

The five award winners, from Germany, USA and the UK, are:

·         Gold Medal (£1,000) – Menina, 2008. Jacqueline Roberts (Germany) www.jacquelineroberts.com

·         Under 30s Gold Medal (£1,000) - Martyn, Sean and Jacob, 2013. William Lakin (UK) www.williamlakin.com

·         Silver Medal (£500) - SHOAL : 30.41N  157.51E (printed in capitals). Mandy Barker ARPS (UK)  www.mandy-barker.com

·         Bronze Medal (£250) - Lemon Blue Modern Game Bantam Pullet. Tamara Staples (USA) www.prettychicken.com

·         Bronze Medal (£250) - Local Family, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Northumberland. Damien Wootten (UK)  www.damienwootten.com

Now in its 157th year, The Royal Photographic Society’s annual International Print Exhibition is the longest standing exhibition of its kind in the world, dating back to 1854. During its long history it has gained a reputation for showcasing a wide range of genres and styles of photography. This year’s selectors were:

·         Paul Seawright - Photographer & Professor of Photography at the University of Ulster

·         Anne McNeill - Director of Impressions Gallery, Bradford 

·         Jordi Ruiz Cirera - Documentary Photographer & Winner of 2013 Taylor Wessing Photographic Prize

·         Marc Aspland FRPS * - Chief Sports Photographer for The Times newspaper

·         Tim Rudman FRPS (Chairman of Selectors) – Fine Art Photographer 

* Marc Aspland participated in the shortlisting process but, due to a serious accident, was unable to participate in the final selection.
