RPS Makes Model Release Form Available
Citing "increased public concerns over privacy and the need for photographers to protect themselves and the people they photograph," The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) has produced a generic model release form which it has made freely available for all photographers to download. "A model release form specifies how pictures can be used and is there to protect both the photographer and his/her subjects," the Society said in a statement. "Properly completed a signed form will protect the photographer in the event of any future claim." You can download the form from the website below.

Bath, 18 May 2015 – With increased public concerns over privacy and the need for photographers to protect themselves and the people they photograph The Royal Photographic Society has produced a generic model release form which it has made freely available for all photographers to download here: www.rps.org/MRF
The RPS has worked with a top UK law firm to produce a RPS Model Release Form template with supporting notes to give guidance to amateur and professional photographers over how to use it. A model release form specifies how pictures can be used and is there to protect both the photographer and his/her subjects. Properly completed a signed form will protect the photographer in the event of any future claim.
The first photographer to use the RPS Model Release Form was RPS member Rose Teanby ARPS of Nottingham who photographed Peter Lord CBE and David Sproxton CBE of Aardman Animations for her ‘Best of Friends’ project. Lord signed the form on behalf of himself and Morph.
Teanby commented: “It was a great comfort to have the form available for such an important portrait session and to feel that I had the reassurance of the RPS behind me. Both Peter Lord and David Sproxton had no hesitation in signing”. She added: “I found the form very clear, logically laid out and not too overwhelming for the client which was very important”.
RPS Director-General Dr Michael Pritchard who worked with the law firm on the RPS Model Release Form commented: “The RPS has a commitment to support all photographers and documents such as the model release, although simple, are important for the protection of photographers and their models in the event of a future dispute. The Society will be developing a range of key resources for photographers over coming months.”
