Awards will be given in categories including Overall Winner, Olympus Portfolio Prize, Under 12, 12-18 and the new Pet Personalities categories. Prizes range from an RSPCA photoshoot to top of the range cameras.

Shortlisted Shots Set Up Young Photographers For Prestigious Award
Thirty-three stunning pictures of animals have been chosen from among thousands to give young photographers the chance of winning the prestigious RSPCA Young Photographer Awards.
The photographers of the chosen pictures, which feature kittiwakes to kitties, lions to lemurs, have earned themselves a place at the glitzy annual award ceremony being held at the Natural History Museum on 14 December.
Chief RSPCA photographer Andrew Forsyth said that the quality of photographs entered for the annual competition – sponsored by Olympus and Warners Midlands and now in its 17th year – was as high as ever.
“The Young Photographer Awards has always been a difficult competition to win, but 2007 will be the toughest yet. The standard of the entries has been exceptionally high and the judges had great difficulty in reducing the images down to these shortlisted finalists.“
Awards will be given in categories including Overall Winner, Olympus Portfolio Prize, Under 12, 12-18 and the new Pet Personalities categories. Prizes range from an RSPCA photoshoot to top of the range cameras.
Andrew Forsyth said: “The under 12 entrants continue to amaze. Their willingness to experiment and impressive technical ability has resulted in a strong group of images that can compete alongside the best of the rest.
“The 12-18 entrants should have professional photographers looking anxiously over their shoulders. This was a very difficult category to judge with an abundance of stunning images across a broad range of subjects.”
Competition judge Richard Lane of Olympus said the Olympus Portfolio prize is one of the toughest sections of the Awards, as it requires five great photographs which work together as a group.
“Taking one lucky shot will not win you this award! Producing a group of five is not easy, but is well worth the effort as they will look absolutely stunning framed and hung together on the walls of the Natural History Museum.”
On the Pets Personalities section, Richard added: “I just loved judging the new Pets Personalities section. The photos were great fun and really show how pets become much loved members of the family.”
“As with the rest of the competition, the quality of the photographs submitted was often quite remarkable; it was amazing to think that they’d been taken by children of eight years old or even younger, as well as by more experienced photographers up to the ripe old age of 18!”
