SAMSUNG SMART CAMERA AND DAVID BAILEY TEAM UP TO CREATE EBAY AUCTION IN AID OF MARIE CURIE CANCER CARE

Week-long online exhibition gives photo lovers the chance to bid on a real David Bailey print

London, UK – 8 May, 2013 – Following Samsung’s partnership with David Bailey last year to launch the NX range, Samsung has joined forces with the iconic photographer again to create an online exhibition in association with eBay for the launch of its new Smart Camera. The auction will feature twenty photographs, one taken by the David Bailey and the others taken by 19 of his namesakes who were recruited by Samsung last year in a campaign that aimed to show the professional quality and simplicity of its new NX Smart Camera range. Photography lovers will be encouraged to guess which is the real David Bailey and bid, with all proceeds going to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Live from today, the charity auction will be open for one week until 8pm on Tuesday 14th March and will feature a range of images taken by the David Baileys on a Samsung NX300 Smart Camera which capture the essence of 'speed.' Each print will be available to bid on for the duration of the week-long auction, with bidders invited to identify the real David Bailey from his namesakes to be in with the chance of getting their hands on an original David Bailey print.

Nick Porter, Head of Digital Imaging, Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland, said, “The aim of our previous campaign with David Bailey was to show that everyone can take fantastic photos, whoever they are. The theme for the online auction with eBay is ‘speed’ and we have really enjoyed seeing the different shots that our David Bailey's have created with that brief in mind. Each shot tells the story behind the Samsung NX300 Smart Camera and how it allows everyday photographers to capture fleeting moments in stunning quality. Thanks to the fast shutter speed, you can photograph anything, even if it’s moving, and then share it instantly to your smartphone, tablet or social network.”

David Bailey said, “It’s been fantastic to work with my namesakes again on this Samsung auction and I’m really impressed by the photographs they have captured under the brief of ‘speed’. With all proceeds going to Marie Curie I am delighted to offer one of my photographs to such a great cause.”

Central to the Samsung NX300 camera, is stunning image quality and super fast shutter speed. The new 20.3 Megapixel APS-CMOS sensor is capable of capturing high quality detailed images with sharp, life-like colors that are crisp and clear in all light conditions. And the Hybrid Auto Focus (AF) system also delivers fast, accurate phase and contrast detection, while the 1/6000 sec shutter speed and 8.6fps continuous shooting mode ensure you never miss that perfect shot.

All photographs sold during the online eBay auction, including the real David Bailey’s, have been taken on a Samsung NX300 Smart Camera, which is available to buy in the UK now from John Lewis and Dixons. Anyone wanting to take part in the David Bailey ebay auction should visit www.thesecretbailey.co.uk and get bidding.
