SanDisk Announces Availability of the World’s Fastest CompactFlash Cards

LAS VEGAS—(Business Wire)—Feb. 11, 2004 2 Gigabyte SanDisk Extreme and Ultra II CompactFlash Cards Offer Blazing Speed and Huge Capacities; Will Ship This Month To Selected Retailers Worldwide

SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq:SNDK) today introduced the 2 gigabyte (GB) SanDisk Extreme(TM) and SanDisk Ultra II CompactFlash(R) cards, the largest capacities available for its comprehensive line of high-performance CompactFlash cards for digital photographers. The announcement was made at the Photo Marketing Association International trade show where SanDisk is showing its products in booth L-70.

SanDisk Extreme and SanDisk Ultra II cards are targeted primarily at the professional digital camera and ‘prosumer’ market where 4 megapixel or higher resolution digital cameras require significantly faster digital film cards. Each card features a minimum write speed of 9 megabytes per second (MB/sec.) and a minimum read speed of 10MB/sec.(a)

SanDisk Extreme and Ultra II CompactFlash cards are consistently rated the fastest CompactFlash cards by a significant margin according to photojournalist and industry consultant, Rob Galbraith. His comprehensive CompactFlash Performance Database includes real-world test results from more than 48 CompactFlash cards tested in Digital SLR cameras from Canon, Fuji, Nikon, Pentax and others (www.robgalbraith.com).

Jay Maisel, an award-winning photographer, lecturer and author whose career spans more than 50 years, said, “I now shoot RAW images which result in very large files. Having a fast 2GB SanDisk CompactFlash card means I can take several hundred pictures with my Nikons. With that level of capacity and performance, I can concentrate on capturing my images and not worry about filling up the card. I feel comfortable and assured using SanDisk cards.”

Tanya Chuang, SanDisk’s retail product marketing manager, said, “The superior write performance of SanDisk’s Extreme and Ultra II cards can mean the difference between capturing a shot or not,” said Tanya Chuang, SanDisk’s retail product marketing manager. “In addition, fast read speeds are becoming increasingly important for professional photographers who want to improve their workflow as they transfer gigabytes of images from card to computer.”

SanDisk Extreme CompactFlash

Sold exclusively through photo retail channels, the 2GB SanDisk Extreme CompactFlash is the fastest and largest capacity Type I CompactFlash card. In addition, Extreme cards are designed to operate in a wide temperature range from -25 to 85 degrees Celsius, making them ideal for harsh shooting environments and punishing conditions such as when they are stored next to hot camera lights.

Chuang added, “SanDisk Extreme cards are highly reliable and give professional photographers peace of mind when they know their digital film cards can handle sub-freezing temperatures to the blazing heat of a desert. SanDisk Extreme cards give professional photographers peace of mind and the assurance that they have the best performing card available.”

Each SanDisk Extreme card includes a protective carrying case and RescuePRO(TM) software to allow photographers to easily recover accidentally deleted images, lost digital images or data. RescuePRO is compatible with both Windows and Mac and requires no driver download or special card reader. Every SanDisk Extreme owner also gains access to a dedicated, priority 1-800 tech support call line.

SanDisk Ultra II CompactFlash

SanDisk Ultra II cards are available in consumer electronics stores and other retail channels. The cards are fully compatible and interchangeable with all CF digital cameras, card readers and adapters.

Chuang added, “Consumers will especially notice the benefits of the faster read speed of the SanDisk Ultra II CF cards. The faster read speed allows photographers to view images more quickly on their camera LCD screens after taking pictures. And they also will be able to upload images to their computer much faster.”
