Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year awards open – Fotospeed announce sponsorship
The Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year are now accepting entries for this year’s competition
Corsham, UK, 2nd October 2017 – Entries are now open for the search for the next winner of The Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year, with Fotospeed announcing their sponsorship for the third year running. The competition, which was set up by photographer Stuart Low in 2013, aims to promote Scotland, its National Trusts, and its landscape photographers. Photographers can submit entries to a variety of categories – including landscape, seascape, urban, youth, and overall winner – until entries close at midnight on Tuesday 14th November 2017.
Details on how to enter the Scottish Landscape Photographer can be found here.
The sponsorship deal sees Fotospeed offering over £1,000 worth of prizes across the ‘Overall’, ‘Landscape’, ‘Seascape’, ‘Urban’ and the ‘Young Scottish Photographer’ categories. The premier photo paper brand has been involved in supporting the competition since 2014, when the winning images were printed on Fotospeed’s Platinum Etching for judging and display at exhibitions.
For last year’s overall winner, Nick Hanson, print is an important part of his photography workflow, and so the renewal of the sponsorship deal with Fotospeed is a welcome announcement.
He said, “I use Fotospeed’s Platinum Baryta, Smooth Cotton, and Platinum Etching from their Signature range for my work. I like to experiment with each of these papers, as each one suits a different type of image. For me, the printing my images makes me see them in such a different light compared to seeing them on a computer screen. With most people shooting digitally these days, it’s so easy to simply let your images sit on your hard drive and view them now and again on the computer. Holding one of my images in my hands is such a nice feeling. The next best feeling is seeing it hanging on a wall. I would like to thank Fotospeed for being a sponsor of Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year again this year, as without sponsors the competition would most likely not be running each year.”
Hanson won last year’s award with his three images 'Glamaig Reflection', 'Autumn in Glen Affric', and 'Autumn Colours on Loch Pityoulish’, after winning the title of runner up in the 2015 competition.
Toby Herlinger, Sales and Marketing Director at Fotospeed, who will also be one of this year’s competition judges, said “It made perfect sense for us to get involved with the Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year as many of our customers and Fotospeed photographers are landscape photographers and we wanted to give something back to the genre. We’re also very grateful for Stuart and the rest of the Scottish Landscape Photographer team for promoting the importance of print as a medium, and for choosing to
work with our materials to do so. The last few years have been a great experience for us – we’ve thoroughly enjoyed judging such a high calibre of work – and we’re really excited to see what the 2017 entries has in store for us.”
Why enter the Scottish Photographer of the Year?
On entering the competition, Nick Hanson said, “Some people I know don’t enter competitions because they don’t think their images are good enough, but I would say that everyone should give it a go. To have your peers choose your images to be shortlisted, commended, highly commended, or win a category, is a truly great feeling.”
Overall winners will also receive:
· £1000 cash prize
· A PREMIER filter kit from the HiTech Signature range worth up to £400 Including one of the new Firecrest 16 stop filters
· A 5-day Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) training course from Academy Class worth £1200
· £300 voucher of Fotospeed inkjet paper
· Signed copy of awards book
