Serif Invites Photographers to Enter its Digital Photography Competition

Following the success of last year’s competition, creative software developer Serif has announced it is running another digital photography contest. And this year it promises to be bigger and better, with a photography kit worth over £2,000 up for grabs.

The 2012 PhotoPlus Competition launches today – in conjunction with National Photography Month – and photography enthusiasts across the world are invited to submit photographs they have captured and improved using Serif’s photo editing software, PhotoPlus. Those who don’t have a copy of PhotoPlus can download the free Starter Edition.

To take part, photographers can visit www.serif.com/photoplus-competition between 1st June and 31st July, and submit their finished image. The categories for the competition are: HDR, Action, Nature & Wildlife, Portrait, and Landscape & Architecture. Once a shortlist of the 20 category winners has been announced on 15th August, the images will be displayed in an online gallery on serif.com and visitors to the website will be invited to vote for the grand prize winner.

“Thousands of photography enthusiasts across the world submitted breathtaking photographs for our 2011 PhotoPlus Competition,” says Gary Bates, Managing Director at Serif. “This year, we expect to see even more images that have been improved using our photo editing software. Whether people use the intuitive cut-out studio, makeover tools, artistic brushes or layers and masks, we are looking forward to showcasing high quality images by undiscovered and budding photographers.”

Individuals entering the competition – in association with Jessops – will be in with a chance of winning: a Nikon 3200 DSLR with an 18-55 VR Lens, Nikon J1 Compact System Camera Twin Lens Kit (white), a Veho Duopod, Serif software bundle, Photozoom Pro, Fluid Mask, two large format prints, a canvas print, and a subscription to Practical Photography and Digital Photo magazines. The winning and shortlisted photos will be showcased on serif.com* plus every category winner will receive a free copy of PhotoPlus. All entrants will receive a £10 voucher to spend at serif.com, and the first 1,000 entrants can claim a free copy of Practical Photography or Digital Photo.

National Photography Month, which is sponsored by Serif, is the first campaign of its kind in the UK and aims to encourage the nation to get more involved in photography and explore new ways to capture and keep life’s most important moments.

Nigel McNaught, UK Director of the Photo Marketing Association, says: “To celebrate National Photography Month, novices and keen photographers are invited to take part in activities and events across the UK, where they will be encouraged to develop the skills to capture and preserve our personal histories for future generations. Serif’s PhotoPlus Competition 2012 is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to capture and edit their photos using the easy-to-use PhotoPlus software.”
