INTRODUCING OUR NEWEST SPECTACLES

Spectacles take Snaps from your personal perspective, with just the tap of a button – so you’re free to stay in the moment.

When you’re ready to view your Snaps, simply transfer to Snapchat Memories. Keep your Snaps as memories for yourself, send to friends, post to your Story, or even download to your phone’s camera roll!

The new version of Spectacles incorporates some of our community’s most requested features — water resistance and photo mode — as well as design updates and technical improvements that we hope make Spectacles more fun on the go and more seamless to use.

We put a lot of effort into improving the end-to-end Spectacles experience. The three most important things we focused on were adding water resistance, improving image and audio quality, and increasing transfer speed.

What’s New?

·  3 New Colours + More Fun to Wear: We kept the classic look but are introducing three new approachable colours: onyx, ruby, and sapphire. You can now choose between two Lens shades for each colour. Additionally, we’ve further miniaturised the electronics so they’re sleeker and more lightweight. The temple area of the frame, which houses the bulk of the electronics, is about ⅓ smaller. This means the charging case is smaller too! The case is over 20% smaller.

·  Water-Resistant: Spectacles are now water resistant, so you can take a photo or video in shallow water! Water resistance offers you even more freedom to keep adventuring with your Spectacles.

·  Content Quality: Specs now take photos as well as videos, and all Snaps now transfer in HD only. Press and hold to capture a photo Snap or tap to capture up to 30 seconds of continuous video. New dual microphones now capture clearer, higher quality sound, reducing wind noise and balancing the conversations in your Snaps.

·  Simple Transfer: We developed a Wi-Fi only import that eliminates the need for SD content - so all content is in HD. This simplifies the experience and ensures you only see the highest possible video quality. Snaps also appear in Memories 4x faster thanks to improved transfer speed. And thanks to “home wifi” memory, Snaps can transfer automatically to Snapchat when you return home. Our first Spectacles had a 9 second/video average transfer time, with the latest Spectacles we’re seeing below 3 second/video.

Why We’re Invested

Since launching Spectacles, we’ve been learning from our community to better understand how Spectacles can fit into their lives, and we’re eager to see how this new generation of Spectacles is adopted and used.

Snapchat is the most used camera in the world. Today nearly all of the 3.5 billion Snaps captured every day on Snapchat are taken on a phone -- but we believe that will not always be the case.  Our Snap Lab team is responsible for ensuring that the Snap Camera remains the most used camera in the world long-term, even as camera devices evolve.

As camera technology advances, cameras are becoming more than just tools for taking photos and videos. Cameras can provide a rich understanding of the world around us by integrating digital elements into the physical world (AR). Alongside this transition, we believe that camera hardware will evolve too -- camera glasses are likely to grow in popularity, for example.

Spectacles are a fun, hands-free camera for our community to experience today, and also help us learn and prepare for a future in which cameras help us “live in the moment” even more.

·  Spectacles are also available from today in the the US, Canada and France and will be available for purchase on Spectacles.com in Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Spain and Italy on Thursday 3 May.

·  Spectacles capture and save your Snaps in our circular format, for both photos and videos. Circular video can be experienced full screen, in any orientation -- just rotate your phone!

·  Spectacles can store up to 150 videos or 3,000 photos at a time.

·  You can import them to Snapchat later when your phone is nearby.

·  Spectacles come with a charging case that can hold 4 full charges.

·  Spectacles feature both outward facing and inward-facing lights.

o   The outward-facing lights tell people that Specs are recording.

o   The inward-facing light indicates to the person wearing Specs they are recording. This light blinks when there are two seconds of recording time remaining.

·  To pair Spectacles open Snapchat and go to your profile. Open settings and select “Spectacles”. Follow on screen instructions and press and hold for 7 seconds. Now Snaps taken on these Specs will transfer to this specific Snapchat account.
