Sony simplifies life for travellers with multi-card reader
Weybridge, 14 June, 2007 - Sony Europe’s IT Peripherals division today announced the addition of a user-friendly, 17-in-1 external multi-card reader to its PC accessories product range. The MRW62E S1/171 multi card reader not only reads 17 types of storage cards including Sony’s Memory Stick range, SD and xD-Picture Card, but also includes Drive Letter recognition software to make it easy to identify different card formats when transferring data.
The Drive Letter recognition software makes the multi-card reader an incredibly user-friendly product. Instead of the usual removable disk icons that appear in Microsoft Windows when an external storage device is connected the software displays a picture of the type of media instead. Ensuring that users can keep track of multiple connected storage cards and transfer files with confidence.
The 17-in-1 external multi-card reader is Microsoft Windows Vista compatible and has a high-speed USB 2.0 connection for driver-less, ‘plug and play’ operation and optimum data transfer of digital photos, music and data. The card reader supports most common media cards, including; Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick PRO Duo, MagicGate Memory Stick, Memory Stick Micro, CompactFlash, Microdrive, SmartMedia, xD-Picture Card, SD Memory Card, SDHC, miniSD Card, MultiMediaCard and RS-MMC. The card reader is designed for longevity with the product meeting stringent tests that included a simulated 10,000 usage cycle; Sony is also including a full two year warranty.
Andrew Barrow, Senior Product Manager for PC Accessories, Sony Europe’s IT Peripherals division comments; “With all our PC Accessories products we look to make our customers lives easier. The compact form factor of the 17-in-1 multi-card reader recognises that we no longer work from a single desk and peripherals need to be portable. With the inclusion of the Drive Letter Recognition software, we’re also looking to help people make sense of what can be an alphabet spaghetti soup of drive letters and help them use the product with confidence.”
MRW62E-S1/171 is compatible with Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000 and later, and MAC OS X Version 10.2 and later.
The Sony MRW62E-S1/171 will be available from June 2007.
