Last night saw the world’s first real time digital photography exhibition, allowing visitors to appreciate the work of three photographers - Lee Strickland, William Daniels and Paul Sullivan -  from the moment the shots were taken. Sony has partnered with three photographers, based in Berlin, London and Paris across Europe, who have been set the creative task of ‘capturing the light’ of their home cities. Each was armed with Sony’s latest NEX-5R camera, complete with built in Wi-Fi allowing them to send photos directly to the gallery in London from their separate locations across Europe. As the night developed, 14 screens on the gallery walls were filled with over 200 images sent through in real time demonstrating parallels and contrasts between each city and the people that live there.

Sony Presents the World’s First ‘Real Time Gallery’ Experience

Last night (Thursday 15th September) saw the world’s first real time digital photography exhibition, allowing visitors to appreciate the work of three photographers from the moment the shots were taken. Visitors immersed themselves in the cultures of London, Paris and Berlin as local photographers travelled across each city for the evening, capturing their journeys and transporting images into a gallery in central London.

Sony partnered with three photographers, based in these iconic cities across Europe, who were set the creative task of ‘capturing the light’ of their home cities. Each was armed with Sony’s latest NEX-5R camera, complete with built in Wi-Fi allowing them to send photos directly to the gallery in London from their separate locations across Europe.

As the night developed, 14 screens on the gallery walls were filled with over 200 images sent through in real time demonstrating parallels and contrasts between each city and the people that live there.

London
Lee Strickland’s photos brought together contrasting corners of London; from rickshaw drivers who raced through the streets of Chinatown, to skaters on the Southbank. Later in the night the journey took Lee east to meet a busker setting up his Saxophone in Dalston and a local in Hackneyposing for a shot, completing a collection which showed characters as diverse as the places they live.

Lee Strickland, working from London said: “I approached the project with an open mind to what I wanted to achieve and the possibilities open to me in this wonderful city,” said Lee Strickland, the photographer working from London. “This allowed me to be free with my creativity and move to where the action was in the city, allowing me to provide the audience with a sense of my journey across our diverse capital. It’s amazing what you can find when you look close, from a spot light on a bridge to an ordinary tower block, simple scenes can look spectacular!”

Paris
Europe’s original ‘City of Love’ did not disappoint for photographer William Daniels, with one of the first images showing a love struck couple against a glowing Eiffel Tower. Visitors to the Grand Palais were pictured admiring the art, and then a race down the Champs-Élysées captured another side to the city, with crowds partying at a night club into the early hours.

William Daniels, working from Paris said: “With such a beautiful backdrop I wasn’t worried about getting stunning shots, but the challenge was finding interesting characters to fill them with. By getting off the beaten track I was aiming to reveal a different side to the city from the tourist sites that are so familiar.”

Berlin
Paul Sullivan searched the city for unusual and interesting characters. Some of Berlin’s derelict and forgotten buildings were brought to life as we were introduced to the characters living within them, and at one point the tables were turned as the group took a turn with the camera to take some photos of the photographer!

Sony’s Real Time Gallery was open for one night only at The Loading Bay Gallery in London’s Shoreditch to showcase the Wi-Fi capabilities of the NEX-5R camera.
