Bath, 2 August 2012 - The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) opens a ‘pop up’ window exhibition in Bath city centre on 5 August. The dramatic window-display showcases winners from the first part of The Society’s online Summer of Sport photography competition titled ‘Sport for All’. The exhibition will be at 35/36 Stall Street, Bath, from 5 August to 16 September 2012.

The competition, which ran from April to June, was part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.  It received over 2300 entries from all over the world from which a short-list of 24 images was compiled. The top medal winners came from India and United Kingdom. A selection of the winners and short-list are being shown in the exhibition. The second part of the competition themed ‘Spirit of the Games’ remains open until 30 September at www.imagecomp.org. Entry is free and open to all.  Images can be uploaded from a phone or camera and will form their own exhibition later in the year.  Competition prizes of digital cameras have been supplied by Panasonic UK.

The exhibition has been developed and funded by the RPS which has been based in Bath since 1979 and is supported by Bath & North East Somerset Council which made the empty shop premises available.

The Society’s Director-General, Dr Michael Pritchard commented: “The Society is excited to be able to present photography outside a formal gallery where it will be seen by many hundreds of thousands of people. At the same time it will make good use of an empty shop turning it into an asset for the city and an attraction for visitors over the summer months.  The Society hopes that this will be the first of a series of ‘pop-up’ photography exhibitions across the city, provided we can attract sponsorship”.
