STOIK Imaging (http://www.stoik.com) today released STOIK Noise Autofix v.1.0. - the fully automatic software for correction of noise in digital photos. The program automatically cleans noise in photos obtained from digital cameras, cameraphones, and scanners. The noise removal filter processes the image to reduce noise level providing best possible balance between noise suppression and the preservation of image details and sharpness. In photographic terms the noise reduction is equivalent to 2 - 3 stops, so that the noise level of the photo shot at ISO 1600 is effectively reduced to ISO 200 - 400 levels. STOIK Noise Autofix is the latest addition to STOIK’s line of automatic photo enhancement and manipulation products which inlcude STOIK RedEye Autofix, STOIK Smart Resizer, STOIK Cameraphone Enhancer, and STOIK Imagic.

STOIK Noise Autofix v.1.0 implements the latest automatic noise reduction algorithm developed by STOIK Imaging. The components of the algorithm are noise detector, noise analyzer and noise suppression filter. Noise detector finds noise and distinguishes it from natural image textures and fine details. It is based on statistical Bayesian classifier pre-trained on the typical noise patterns. Noise analyzer measures noise parameters, builds the noise profiles, and decides what filter parameters are optimal for the particular noise type according to the proprietary image quality criteria.

The noise removal filter processes the image to reduce noise level providing balance between noise suppression and preservation of image details. The filtering is performed using a multi – resolution image representation.
During filtration the software makes statistically optimal decision whether image element belongs to noise or not, and applies different processing in noise and signal elements. The automatic Smart Sharpening filter is included as an optional post–processing.

The software requires just one click to process the photo, with all operations performed automatically:
- noise detection
- noise profiling
- noise profile analyzing and correction
- filter adaptation to noise pattern based on image quality criteria
- sharpening

Optionally, user can manually tune filter parameters:
- change noise detection/false alarms levels
- adjust image details preservation level
- adjust noise reduction amount

Supported formats:
- Import 24- and 48-bit color JPEG, TIFF, PNG, BMP, PSD files
- Output JPEG, TIFF (24 and 48 bpp), PNG, BMP
- EXIF data is preserved

Speed:
- average processing time for 10-Megapixel is 10 seconds (Pentium IV 3.4HGz)

STOIK Noise Autofix is also available as a software library. Fully automatic operation of STOIK Noise AutoFix permits its use for unattended processing of photos in photo kiosk, mini or mega lab, or in one-click photo correction software. Embedded versions for camera chips can be delivered upon request.
