Chronicle Books has just released a new rock and roll photograph book - Taking Aim: Unforgettable Rock & Roll Photographs Selected by Graham Nash. Spanning more than fifty years of music-making as seen through the eyes of 40 photographers, Taking Aim is Graham’s personal take, through photography, on the evolution of rock ‘n’ roll music. Some personalities, like Bob Marley and Emmylou Harris, are represented in a single, iconic image. Others, like Johnny Cash and The Beatles, are documented by multiple photographers and throughout various stages in their lives and careers. Accompanying the book is an audio CD with Nash’s insights and reflections on each photograph. The 128-page book, which has 80 duotone and full-colour photos, is priced at $50. The exhibition of Taking Aim, organized by Experience Music Project | Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame (EMP | SFM) in Seattle, Washington, opens there in 2010 and will tour thereafter.

International legend Graham Nash captures the essence of his two favorite artforms—music and photography—in this unique, energized collection of images. Spanning more than fifty years of music-making as seen through the eyes of 40 photographers, Taking Aim is Graham’s personal take, through photography, on the evolution of rock ‘n’ roll music. Where else do Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin share the page, preceded by Iggy Pop and Elton John, with an encore by Mudhoney in the mosh pit? Some personalities, like Bob Marley and Emmylou Harris, are represented in a single, iconic image. Others, like Johnny Cash and The Beatles, are documented by multiple photographers and throughout various stages in their lives and careers. Taking Aim is a stunning tribute to the music of our era—ranging from the exuberant to the contemplative, from high art to raw spontaneity—brought together by one of rock ‘n’ roll’s foremost practitioners.

Accompanying the book is an audio CD with Nash’s insights and reflections on each photograph.

About the Contributors
Graham Nash was born in Blackpool, England, in 1942. While best known as a musician—Nash first became famous as a member of The Hollies during the mid-1960s, and went on to co-found Crosby Stills, & Nash—he has also pursued a parallel career as a photographer, collector, and digital imaging pioneer. In 1990 he co-founded Nash Editions, the first professional fine-art digital printmaking studio, with R. Mac Holbert. Nash’s photographs have been exhibited at museums and galleries around the world and were published in his retrospective book, Eye to Eye.

Jasen Emmons is the Curatorial Director at Experience Music Project (EMP). Experience Music Project is dedicated to the exploration of creativity and innovation in popular music. By blending interpretative, interactive exhibitions with cutting-edge technology, EMP captures and reflects the essence of rock ‘n’ roll, its roots in jazz, soul, gospel, country, and the blues, as well as rock’s influence on hip-hop, punk, and other recent genres. Visitors can view rare artifacts and memorabilia, and experience the creative process by listening to musicians tell their own stories.

The exhibition of Taking Aim, organized by Experience Music Project | Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame (EMP | SFM) in Seattle, Washington, opens there in 2010 and will tour thereafter.
