Exposure to Acclaimed Curator, Publication, Exhibition & Award Opportunities!
San Diego, Calif. (April 19, 2011) Now in its 7th year, the Art of Photography Show is an established and critical force in the world of contemporary photography. The show provides tangible benefits to artists trying to break into the public eye. The competition’s producers continue to outdo themselves. This well thought out international exhibition provides value to artists at every turn, from first-rate viewing in the judging process to exhibition and publication opportunities, photo industry connections, and even monetary awards.
Producer of the Art of Photography Show, Steven Churchill, is dedicated to providing exposure to new and emerging artists, and has done so with great effect; last year’s viewing audience exceeded 30,000 people. The diversity and draw of last year’s competition was astounding, with entries from 67 countries.
For photographers, the distinguishing feature of this competition is its notable judges. Each year the Art of Photography Show invites a curator from a major museum to jury the show. This year’s judge is Anne Lyden, the Associate Curator of Photography at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Ms. Lyden brings a very qualified eye to the jury process. Photographers will recognize this is an unequaled opportunity to put their work before the eyes of a museum curator. So too will exhibition-goers note the quality of exhibiting photographers and experience the rare chance to acquire quality images by cutting-edge artists.
Exposure is critical to all artists. Selected works will be on exhibit for a full nine weeks in the historic heart of downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp District. On August 13th the exhibition debuts with a high society gathering of the finest quality in the elegant and spacious Lyceum Theater Gallery. The opening gala draws over 1,500 guests, bringing elite attendees including art collectors, curators, designers, architects, executives, civic and government leaders, not to mention the stars of the show – the artists. Artists journey from around the world to attend the gala reception, take in the show, engage the viewing public, and share creative inspiration with fellow photographers. Though the music and refreshments of the evening are delightful, most tantalizing is the opportunity to acquire the works on display. Another benefit to the artists is the chance to sell their work to San Diego’s movers and shakers and perhaps catch the eye of yet another curator in attendance.
All exhibiting artists are included in comprehensive exhibition catalogue. Published in full-color, the exhibition catalogue is comprised of images by exhibiting artists with accompanying artist statements. Complete with introductions by the Producer, Steven Churchill, and Curator, Anne Leyden, the publication becomes a wonderful resource for guests and artists alike. The catalogue serves as a guide and reference that offers the opportunity at making a lasting impression on all viewers. Catalogue copies are given to guests on opening night, at artist lectures, and at other special events for the run of the show.
Another crucial and well-appreciated aspect of the competition are the monetary awards. A total of $10,000.00 in awards will be provided to the Art of Photography Show’s top-rung artists. The awarded artists can put these funds to use without restriction.
The competition is broadly inclusive, and open to all applicants. Anyone can apply. With so much to gain, photographers of all backgrounds, genre and photographic medium are highly encouraged to apply for this not-to-miss opportunity. The application process is a user-friendly online procedure and the entry fee is minimal.
Photographers: Present your best work to Anne Lyden. The entry deadline is May 17th!
