THE NATURAL WORLD
Portraits of Earth’s Great Ecosystems

Thomas D. Mangelsen
Foreword by Dr. Jane Goodall

“The Natural World represents only a tiny fraction of the Earth’s extraordinary landscapes and amazing diversity. This book is a personal selection of images from those places and species that have touched me deeply and changed my life.” – Thomas D. Mangelsen, from the introduction

Wondrous and enchanting, yet fragile and at risk, THE NATURAL WORLD (ISBN: 978-0-7893-2070-4 / $75.00 US / September 2010) by celebrated nature photographer Thomas Mangelsen explores six continents and ten ecosystems to celebrate Earth’s diversity of life with stunning, panoramic photography. By selecting his most important images—from a wildebeest migration on the plains of the Serengeti to the penguins of Antarctica, and from the grizzlies of Alaska to polar bears on the frozen landscape of the Hudson Bay, Mangelsen takes us on a rarely seen worldwide visual odyssey. Featuring excerpts from his journals detailing his experience in the field, this book offers an intimate look into the natural world through the photographer’s wonder-filled eyes. It is also a quiet call to action to conserve the land and the creatures that inhabit it. With a foreword written by renowned primatologist and U.N. Messenger for Peace Dr. Jane Goodall, this book is a celebration of wildness and its intrinsic value. THE NATURAL WORLD is a record of Earth’s last great places, one that will inspire present and future generations with the message of what we have, can, and must, be saved.
