Toshiba’s latest 4TB and 5TB external HDDs are easy to set up and ideal for expanding storage needs

19 March 2014, Neuss – Toshiba Europe GmbH (TEG), Storage Peripheral Division, is today announcing the launch of its highest capacity external HDD, the 5TB STOR.E Canvio Desktop External Hard Drive[1]. The 4TB and 5TB models will complete Toshiba’s extensive hard disk drive (HDD) range, offering the highest capacities with the best levels of performance. The HDD’s built-in USB 3.0 interface and compatibility with previous generations of USB 2.0 devices, significantly improves large file transfer performance[2] and minimises waiting time for backup. 

With our increasingly digital lifestyles, more and more people are relying on their electronic devices to store and save important files – from banking passwords, confidential emails to photographs and movies. However, a recent survey revealed that 2,000 laptops are stolen or lost every day and 32% of data loss is caused by human error[3] showing just how important it is to have precious data backed up.

The STOR.E Canvio Desktop External Hard Drive is preloaded with software to streamline the backup process making it as fast and simple for the user as possible. The included NTI® Backup Now EZ™[4] software scans your system and recommends the best coverage for your computer. Users have the choice of backing up files and folders to their STOR.E Canvio Desktop Hard Drive or backing up everything saved on your computer, or choosing both options for the most comprehensive coverage. And, by utilising the password-protection capability, users have an added level of protection to keep their precious data secure and prevent unauthorised access.

The STOR.E Canvio will enable users to better manage their data with a Drive Space Alert. The add-on feature will keep an eye on your drive and let you know when it’s getting full and when it’s time for data spring clean. The drive also offers users the option to customise their backup routines, from what type of files they want to back up; to how often they want to back them up.

If even the worst happens, users can click the restore button and instantly recover a file or folder. What’s more, if you boot directly from your STOR.E Canvio Desktop Hard Drive, it will restore all the files saved on your computer. Toshiba has now even included the ability to burn a boot CD/DVD, making the process even simpler.
