TURNS PRO – The new invention to capture stunning time lapses, videos and panoramas.
Time lapses and panning videos can adds a professional touch to even the most amateurs footage but achieving a smooth movement cannot always be so easy. The solution could be TurnsPro, a brand new invention from Plymouth, UK.
TurnsPro is a mount for cameras which allows the user to select the speed and direction of rotation. The direction of rotation can be set to turn clockwise or anticlockwise. The rotation speed can also be set, with the fastest rotation taking 20 seconds, ideal for a video of sport or live action with rapid movement. While the slowest takes up to 10 hours to capture stunning time lapse across a day or a night. The speed is also able to be set anywhere in between these extremes. If you don't want to have a full rotation TurnsPro allows you to set a limited angle of rotation from 15 degrees through to a full 360. A back and forth panning motion is also programmable to gently pan back and forth across the same field of view.
With an industry standard screw fitting in the base to securely attach the unit to any tripod of your choosing and a similar screw on the top, thereby allowing a wide range of cameras to can be fitted to take footage. GoPros, action cams and compact cameras easily fit on TurnsPro and even a DSLR with a smallish lens has been used (the suggested max weight is 1kg, however with a separate mounting cradle the mechanism is rated to 1.5kg as long as the camera is balanced) In addition, a mobile phone mount is included which will securely hold your smart phone or tablet in place while using any number of the time lapse apps to create stunning footage.
TurnsPro weighs only 300g and most of that is from the 4 AA batteries that power it. The battery life in tests has already provided up to 10 hours of use, which should more than cover most peoples needs. The LCD screen is also backlight to allow night time programming. All programming takes place through three buttons under the LCD display.
The invention of TurnsPro came about when a group of friends wanted a way to make their climbing and surfing videos have a unique look. Initially using flat topped egg timers to place their cameras on top of they wanted to be able to vary the speed and choose the direction for their shots.
Already the inventors have got some great footage of climbing, surfing, holidays, weddings (by placing in the middle of the table of guests), landscapes and events. But the applications for use are endless. Prospective buyers have already indicated they would be using it for church services, wildlife photography, gigs, astrophotography, architecture and even drone footage – the only limit seems to be their imaginations.
To promote the company and spread the message as far as possible the device was launched on Kickstarter to gain funding to complete the manufacturing process. The target of £16.000 ($24,00) was reached within the first three weeks and the pledges keep on coming in, with a couple of stretch targets in sight. The kickstarting campaign finishes on April 1st.
