ViewBug Announces New “Depth Photo Contest”

In partnership with Lytro Cameras

San Diego—July 26, 2012…Since 2011, Lytro has provided a new and innovative way of taking pictures.  The simple and sleek Lytro camera offers minimal bulk with maximum photographic potential, capturing an entire light field, rather than a single lane of light. To help promote this rapidly popular technology, Lytro has paired with ViewBug, the number one online photo sharing and contest platform, to bring the “Depth Photo Contest”. The contest will run until November 6th, and photos will be judged based on any photographer’s creative ability to capture a three-dimensional space. First place will win a Lytro Camera, valued at over $399.  A single button easily captures living pictures that you can refocus before or after snapping, with no shutter delay.  Started by Ren Ng Ph.D., with the vision of a user-friendly design has no auto-focus, no shutter lag, no flash, and no unnecessary modes, dials or settings and can be easily shared online with friends and family. Lytro allows every shot to be a perfect one (www.Lytro.com). Nearly 400 entries have already been submitted and the contest continues to grow thanks to the ViewBug and Lytro community.

Award winning underwater photographer and Director of Photography at Lytro, Eric Cheng, will be judging the contest.  Eric has won awards such as the Antibes Festival Award, Nature’s Best Magazine photo competition, and some of his work has been placed in the Smithsonian’s Natural History Museum. In 2007, he launched Wetpixel.com, an underwater photography and videography site that features a community of over 13,500 international photographers.  (www.echeng.com)
