Wanderlust Magazine is reminding interested photographers that the submission deadline for its sixteenth annual Travel Photo of the Year competition is 21st October 2011. The winning images, plus a selection of shortlisted shots, will be featured on the Wanderlust website, printed in Wanderlust Magazine and The Independent, and showcased in an exhibition at Destinations 2012, the UK’s top holiday and travel show. The four winners of the Photo of the Year Amateur category will be whisked away (along with a companion) to photogenic Colombia, while runners-up will receive a Nikon D3100 camera. The search continues for the best travel photos of 2011

Since we launched the 16th annual Wanderlust Travel Photo of the Year competition in July we’ve once again been astonished by the quality of the entries that have been submitted. From portraits of elephants in Kenya to the Great Wall of China at sunset to colourful Indian festivals, we’ve poured over a host of compelling and captivating images.However, there is still time for both amateur
and professional photographers to enter their best shots in to the UK’s biggest amateur travel photo competition for a chance to win some outstanding prizes.The winning images, plus a selection of shortlisted shots, will be printed in Wanderlust magazine and website, The Independent newspaper and will be showcased in a stunning exhibition at Destinations 2012, the UK’s top holiday and travel show. The selected images will be printed by PhotoBox, the UK’s No. 1 company for photo printing.The fantastic prizes in the five categories – four solely for amateur photographers – include £3,000 cash, photo commissions to Colombia and great Nikon digital cameras.

Amateur Category
Win a trip to Colombia

Situated between the Caribbean and the Andes, Colombia is a photographer’s paradise dotted with ancient sites and natural wonders. Wanderlust have joined up with Proexport Colombia – the Colombia Tourist office (www.colombia.travel/en) – to send the four winners of the Photo of the Year Amateur category on an incredible photographic commission to this exciting South American destination. Photos entered into the Amateur category can be taken anywhere in the world, but must fit one of four categories: People, Wildlife, Landscape or Travel Icons. The Travel Icons category is designed to recognise shots of places, events and people that have achieved an iconic visual status in the world of travel.There will be a winner for each of the four categories, each of which will be whisked away (along with a companion) to photogenic Colombia. Each runner-up will receive a Nikon D3100 camera worth £579, with the highly commended Amateur entries picking up a nifty Nikon COOLPIXS9100 camera worth £299.

Portfolio Category
Win £3,000

The Portfolio category is open to both amateur and professional photographers, with a top prize of £3,000. Entrants to this category need to assemble a set of five eye-catching images, which together present an inspiring and unique insight into one of the four categories (People, Wildlife, Landscapes, Travel Icons). The top prize will be awarded to the portfolio that best tells a cohesive and spectacular story, while the lucky runner-up will walk away with a Nikon D3100 camera worth £579.Wanderlust’s Editor-in-Chief Lyn Hughes comments: “We were sure that last year’s winning images could not be bettered but the quality of this year’s entries have been of the highest standard. With entries flooding in for both categories, we look to be on track for another record year and a stunning collection of photographs. But if anyone out there is sitting on some great travel shots, we want to see them.”
