DICE America - Rochester, NY– March 17, 2005.  Dice America announced that their Wi-Pics units have begun shipping. Wi-Pics is a patent-pending network appliance that allows any digital camera that has a Type II CompactFlash card slot, to transmit images via wireless networks, without modifying the camera’s firmware, impacting camera performance or affecting battery life. Wi-Pics transmit image files from the camera to editing stations, servers, or FTP sites via network access points. It can be configured with an optional 20GB hard drive for image storage/back up and a bar code scanner allowing associated data to be transmitted along with the images. In addition to a multi-mode 802.11a/b/g radio, Wi-Pics units have a 10/100 Mb/s Ethernet interface for studio use.

Wi-Pics improve the digital work flow of professional photographers who require rapid transfer of their images for viewing, storage or printing. Event photographers, photojournalists, portrait/social studios, cruise lines, sports photographers, schools, and government agencies will benefit from the use of Wi-Pics.

The units are about the size of a personal CD player, can be worn on the photographer’s belt, and are fully self-powered. They are designed with professional photographers in mind, freeing them to shoot events uninterrupted by the need to move image files by “sneaker-net” or be limited by the number of cards they are carrying. All in all, Wi-Pics is a look into the future of digital imaging that will free photographers from being disk jockeys - so that they can concentrate on taking pictures.
