Nikon UK Press Release
The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) has got together with leading photographic brand Nikon to launch its first national photography competition for 2007. The competition aims to capture the variety of WWT’s nine centres, from swans feeding at WWT Caerlaverock to people enjoying a guided walk at the London centre.
The competition has three categories: ‘WWT Nikon Photo of the Year’, ‘WWT Nikon Junior Photo of the Year’ and ‘WWT Nikon Digiscoping Photo of the Year’. The judging panel, chaired by wildlife photographer Chris Packham, are looking for variety, innovation and imagination, as well as technical accomplishment. For example, your image might capture a special moment, depict specific behaviour or tell an imaginative story.
There are some fantastic prizes to be won, including a full digiscoping kit, which will enable the winner to take stunning wildlife photographs with a telescope and digital camera. The superb Nikon D40 digital SLR camera with 18-55mm lens and a telephoto lens will be on offer as well as the lightweight and compact Travelite EX binoculars or one of Nikon’s latest consumer cameras.
The main rule of the competition is that all photos submitted must have been taken at one of the nine WWT centres in the UK. WWT is hoping that the competition will encourage people to visit a WWT centre and even help support the charity by joining as a member. Membership allows visits to the nine WWT centres for free.
Kate Cartwright, Head of Press and PR, Nikon UK, said: ‘We are very pleased to be involved in this competition. WWT centres offer the perfect location for budding photographers.’
WWT Chief Executive Martin Spray said: ‘This competition offers a wonderful opportunity to capture a lot of what WWT has to offer. We look forward to seeing people at our centres taking photographs. We are delighted to be working with Nikon on this competition and there are some superb prizes up for grabs.’
The competition is now open and the closing date for entries is Monday 27th August 2007.
