You Are Here is an exhibition and evolving photo project live from 30 July to 10 August at Mother London. The partnership between Mother and award-winning international photographer Caroll Taveras will capture those found lost and wandering, in a specially created studio, during the Olympics. “Just one day in, and the You Are Here street team have helped an array of people who were lost – including the Serbian Olympic swimmer, George Markovic,” says Mother London’s Annalisa Hoadley. “The project has been greatly received by the sitters, who have all been helped out in return from the team here bringing them to the studio and giving them some tips and a tea.” All the images will be available to view on Tumblr - visits to the exhibition are by appointment only.

Mother Press Release

‘You Are Here’, a PHOTO STUDIO by Mother and Caroll Taveras Opens to Capture ‘The Lost’ During the Olympics

Daily Until 10 August 2012

You Are Here is an exhibition and evolving photo project live from 30 July to 10 August at Mother to celebrate the world coming to the East End for the Olympics.

The partnership between Mother and award-winning international photographer Caroll Taveras will capture those found lost and wandering, in a specially created studio, during The Games.  The You Are Here team will also ensure sitters will also get some helpful tips and a cuppa along the way.

Those lost will be put in front of Caroll’s skilled lens as her celebrated PHOTO STUDIO project is recreated at Mother.  Shot on a 4”x5” Polaroid large format view camera, the photographs will be uploaded to the dedicated Tumblr blog http://youarehereat.tumblr.com.  The images will also be pasted directly onto the walls of Mother, to create a constantly evolving record and exhibition of everyone Mother found and helped on their way.

The Colombian born photographer, currently based in London, is known for her real, ready and often retro-style portraits; including faces such as the iconic Isabella Rossellini, Mark Ronson, through to the NY artist Carmen Herriera.  Her work has graced the front covers of TIME through to The Guardian Weekend and she has contributed regularly to Wallpaper* and The New York Times.

Caroll’s PHOTO STUDIO projects hail back to the tradition of small town portrait studios around the world in the first half of the twentieth century.  She set out to recreate the local portraiture studio and relationship between sitter and photographer – whilst documenting the local community of which she is part.

Jane Lucas, PR and Marketing Manager of Mother and co-creator of the project said, “Our You Are Here street team have already helped George Markovic, a Serbian Olympic swimmer – we couldn’t help him win in the fast lane, but we did get him to Brick Lane!  This is a fantastic way for Mother celebrate the games and capture the melting pot of people in the city with Caroll – whilst giving them some help at the same time”.

You Are Here runs at Mother from 30 July until 10 August, all the images will be available to view on http://youarehereat.tumblr.com and visits to the exhibition are by appointment only.
