CLOTHES SHOW LIVE AND NIKON REUNITE FOR YOUNG FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 2007

After a very successful debut year, Clothes Show Live is continuing its support for young fashion and design talent with the return of the second ever Young Fashion Photographer of the Year Competition in association with Nikon. The award is the first of its kind in the UK and aims to celebrate up and coming British talent within the world of fashion photography.

This year’s competition invites budding 16-25 year old fashion photographers from across the UK to create a picture that encapsulates the historical era ‘Cool Britannia’, a term coined to sum up the mood in Britain during the late 1990s which was closely associated to the fashionable London scene, the Britpop music movement and the early years of the New Labour government of Tony Blair.

The brief requires entrants to revisit this era and use their imagination and photographic skills to create and shoot an image which demonstrates what Cool Britannia means to them in 2007. Entrants must also complete an application form explaining what influenced their design and include with their photograph any preliminary sketches or designs.

A panel of judges will choose the ten best entries whose work will then be displayed at Clothes Show Live 2007, which runs at the Birmingham NEC between 7th and 12th December 2007. Final judging will take place at the show and the overall winner will receive £2000 prize money, a one week placement with a top photographer, £1000 worth of Nikon photographic equipment (RRP Value) and a VIP lunch at the show for the winner and 3 friends. The runners-up will have their work displayed at the show, plus will get the opportunity to take their own pictures in the photography pit at the fashion theatre on the day of the competition. The closing date for entries is 17th October 2007.

Kate Robinson, Head of Press and PR at Nikon UK, at Nikon said: “We are really excited to collaborate again with the Clothes Show Live for this fantastic competition. Recognising young talent is crucial to the future of the fashion photography industry.”

Gavin Brown, Managing Director at Haymarket Exhibitions Ltd, said:  “As the world’s largest fashion and beauty event, it is important to ensure our commitment to up and coming design and fashion talent. This sector of the Educational Bursary further increases this commitment and we hope this year’s competition is a real success.”
