Young Photographers Alliance Award

Travel Photographer of the Year (TPOTY) is introducing a new award this year. TPOTY has teamed up with the Young Photographers Alliance to offer a new Young Photographer Alliance Award in order to help people passionate about photography to get a good grounding which will enable them to pursue photography as a career. Additionally, the existing Young Travel Photographer of the Year (Young TPOTY) competition - themed ‘Big World, Small World’ in 2010 - has been divided into two age groups, 14 and under, and 15-18, with prizes for each group. Finally, the TPOTY judges will give a special award to one young photographer. This award will be given to the most interesting entry from a photographer aged 25 years and under who has entered either the New Talent or Young Travel Photographer of the Year categories. As part of their prize, the winner will be mentored by an experienced professional photographer through a place on the YPA mentoring programme. Entry for Young TPOTY is completely free. Images can be uploaded at www.tpoty.com.

‘EXTRAORDINARY’ OPPORTUNITIES FOR NEW, EMERGING TALENT & YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHERS
New Talent, Young TPOTY and TPOTY/YPA Emerging Talent Award, Travel Photographer of the Year 2010
The international Travel Photographer of the Year awards have always sought to recognise young and emerging talent as well as the work of professional photographers and skillful amateurs. The 2010 awards take this to new heights, with the introduction of a new award - the Young Photographers Alliance Award - and the division of Young TPOTY into two age groups plus, of course, the popular New Talent category and the First Shot (beginners) award.
“TPOTY has helped many photographers - not just the winners - to raise their profile, sell their work, get commissions or launch photographic career. However, we wanted to further bolster what we have to offer to new and emerging photographic talent, and have teamed up with the Young Photographers’ Alliance to do just that. Both TPOTY and Young Photographers’ Alliance want to help people passionate about photography to get a good grounding which will enable them to pursue photography as a career, and the result is an extraordinary opportunity for emerging photographers,” said TPOTY founder, Chris Coe.
New Talent - ‘Sell It!’
The New Talent category is for all amateur or semi-professional photographers aged 19 years and over who are looking to start a career in photography. It challenges them to tell the story of a place, a destination, an experience, a journey, even a travel commodity, in the style of a travel advert. The winner will journey to India and Nepal with Intrepid Travel to shoot a photo essay, receive Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 software, a Young Photographers Alliance portfolio review and feedback, a Lexar Professional 300x 16GB CompactFlash card and Lexar Professional Dual-Slot Card Reader, and a customised leather portfolio case from Plastic Sandwich. They will also be offered representation by Axiom, England’s premier travel photographic agency.
Young TPOTY
The 2010 Young TPOTY category is themed ‘Big World, Small World’. This year the upper age limit has been extended to 18 and the award is split into two age groups with prizes for each group, giving younger entrants a better opportunity to win. Entrants aged 14 and under submit a portfolio of images which show a place or country both in close up and in wider views. Entrants aged 15-18 have a choice of two sub-themes - People or Environment - which they must depict in close up and wider view.
The Young Travel Photographer of the Year will be chosen from the winners of these two age groups, and will receive Adobe Photoshop CS5 & Adobe Photoshop Lightroom software, Lexar Professional 300x 16GB CompactFlash card and Lexar Professional Dual-SlotCard Reader, a Wacom Bamboo Fun Pen & Touch tablet, and a YPA portfolio review and feedback. The winner of the under 14 age group and the winners of the People and Environment categories of the age 15-18 section each receive Adobe Photoshop Lightroom software, a Photo Iconic image critique session and a Lexar Professional 300x 8GB CompactFlash card, while the runners-up receive Adobe Lightroom and a Photo Iconic critique session.
TPOTY/YPA Emerging Talent Award
This year the TPOTY judges will give a special award to one young photographer. This award will be given to the most interesting entry from a photographer aged 25 years and under who has entered either the New Talent or Young Travel Photographer of the Year categories. As part of their prize, the winner will be mentored by an experienced professional photographer through a place on the YPA mentoring programme, and will be offered the opportunity of representation from Axiom. Prior to participating in the programme, the winner will receive some comprehensive practical and creative photography tution on a Photo Iconic photography course.
Entry costs £20 for New Talent, while entry for Young TPOTY is completely free. Images can be uploaded at www.tpoty.com, or entrants may submit prints. Full details of how to enter can be found on www.tpoty.com. Entries close on October 9th.
