Performance

If you like monochrome conversions, Tonality is a great bit of software as it can perform fantastic conversions with as little or as much input from you as you like.

While some of the presets available won't to be everybody's tastes, it's well worth experimenting with the different options available. Some are more natural monochromatic conversions, while some are a little whackier. If you're a fan of Instagram filters, you're bound to find something you like here too.

In terms of the other kinds of editing, being able to use layers, and apply changes to certain aspects, such as tone, clarity and so on, makes it a pretty powerful piece of editing software, but as its focus is on only producing black and white images, it's worth having the entire MacPhun suite, or using this as a plugin for something else, such as Photoshop.

One of the best things about the software is that it gives you all this powerful editing in an easy-to-use setup. You don't necessarily need specialist knowledge of monochrome conversion techniques to make some interesting edits, but you've got the power to make changes if you need to. If there's something quite complicated you need to do, having the ability to use layers gives you that ability without a complicated workaround.
