Snapselect Review

Once the import and analyze is finished, Snapselect groups your images by similarity. What if you're a Lightroom user - is Snapselect redundant? Possibly. There's no reason you can't organize in Lightroom, particularly if you use that as your import method. It's very easy to flag photos for deleting or rating in Lightroom, so Snapselect is less useful in this case. However, you can integrate the two applications, using Snapselect to do the importing, then flagging rejects and picks which will show up in Lightroom as new collections. Snapselect does give you more options for hunting down duplicates and similar images based that aren't available in Lightroom. I'd like to see an option to assign ratings rather than just picks or rejects. As it is now, I can select images as picks, but then need to rate them in Lightroom. For my workflow, I find it easier to just go through the process once in Lightroom.
It's a quick process to go through and flag images as picks or rejects. These can then be exported to a custom folder for deleting, or sharing to most of the popular social media sites or email. You can send your images to an external editor directly from the session. Only Macphun applications are supported though, no Photoshop or other applications.
One improvement I'd like to see in future versions is the option to show more details for images. There is a nice Detailed Info option, but it's only available when viewing a single group, and only shows the currently selected image. In the main grid view, you can't see which images are full size vs. thumbnails, or jpg vs. RAW files.
Conclusion
Snapselect is an interesting product that fills a niche for some. I see the ideal user as someone with lots of unorganized images that isn't taking advantage of a image management application. The more advanced user will find the features set a little restrictive. Perhaps Macphun will see fit to release a Pro version with more advanced features. Still, for $14.99, it's a great value and will be useful for many photographers.
