Using the Wacom Cintiq 27QHD Touch

I setup with a mirrored display, running the device at it’s native 2560x1440. Resolution may depend on the type of connection you use, the display comes with DisplayPort, HDMI, and other connectors. The Wacom Cintiq 27QHD Touch also offers a 97% Adobe RGB gamut from its IPS LCD, so color accuracy is excellent.

With localized adjustments now common in most image editing applications like Lightroom and Capture One, as well as full support for Photoshop with pressure sensitivity, tilt, flow, etc, using a graphics tablet makes the image editing experience much more pleasant as well as quicker thanks to the increased accuracy provided by using a pen vs a mouse or trackpad - after all, having 2048 levels of sensitivity beats the heck out of what you can get with your finger. One of the biggest stumbling blocks for many when moving to a graphics tablet is that feeling of disconnect between the pen and screen. With the Cintiq, there is none of that at all - you’re drawing right on the screen, making it an excellent interactive experience. Even though I’m used to using a tablet and don’t think twice about it, this was a new level of accuracy for me and really enhanced the editing I did.

The ExpressKeys Remote is fully customizable with global and per application settings for each of the many buttons

You’ll see onscreen what different functions are available to you with the ExpressKeys Remote, so remembering all these functions is a bit more manageable

Features of the display, such as activating touch mode, going to settings, and bringing up an onscreen keyboard, can be accessed via the three buttons across the top of the display (not really buttons, but lit icons)

Color Management

Also available is a new Wacom Color Manager - essentially an X-Rite Eye 1 Photo, that can be used to calibrate your display. The Color Manager works well, although I was surprised at how well calibrated the Wacom Cintiq 27QHD Touch was out of the box. Running the Color Manager gave me a very slight shift way from green for skin tones. You can also use the Color Manager on your other displays, and if you’re doing serious editing work on your images, you should be calibrating your display regardless of the use of a tablet. The Wacom Color Manager is available for $249.95
