Children With Cancer, a UK-based children’s charity, has recently launched its first photography competition. The theme is simply ‘Childhood’ and there are two categories for entrants: children (aged 16 years or under) and adults (aged 17 years or over). Each entry must be accompanied by a minimum donation of £5 for children and £10 for adults. The submission deadline is 3 August 2012. Paris Photo and Aperture Foundation have announced The Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards. This year, the Awards will focus on two major categories: First PhotoBook and PhotoBook of the Year. The Children’s Eyes On Earth International Youth Photography Contest, Festival and Exhibition 2012 aims to raise awareness of environmental issues through the eyes of young people and their photographs. Anyone aged 17 or under may enter the contest and all entrants must submit at least one image illustrating the theme “I Love Nature” and one image illustrating the theme “I Fear Pollution”. Entries will be assessed by an international judging panel, with a special “Your Choice” prize being awarded by public vote. The deadline for entries is 5 September 2012. A shortlist of twelve outstanding international photographers, from which one will be selected later this year to receive the Prix Pictet, the world’s photography prize for environmental sustainability, was announced yesterday. The twelve artists will now prepare their work for the finalists’ exhibition to be held at the Saatchi Gallery in London in October. The twelve photographers are Robert Adams, Daniel Beltrá, Mohamed Bourouissa, Philippe Chancel, Edmund Clark, Carl De Keyzer, Luc Delahaye, Rena Effendi, An-My Lê, Joel Sternfeld and Guy Tillim. The winner of the fourth Prix Pictet will be announced by Kofi Annan, Honorary President of the Prix Pictet, on Tuesday 9th October.

Six politicians have been named as the ‘Judges Choices’ winners of the Jessops All-Party Parliamentary Photographic Competition.  This year over 400 entries were submitted, displaying a diverse range of imagery taken from both the politicians’ personal and professional lives. The winning photographers from the House of Commons are: Andrew Miller MP, Caroline Flint MP, Nick Raynsford MP, Austin Mitchell MP and Tim Loughton MP. Lord Crathorne is the sole winner from the House of Lords. The six winning photographs together with a further 100 images will be available for public viewing from today to 5th July at the Jessops All-Party Parliamentary Photographic Exhibition in The Upper Waiting Hall of the House of Commons.  The Exhibition will then move to the Royal Robing Room at the House of Lords from 6th July for a further two weeks.

Oakwood, has announced its “Most Memorable Travel” Photography Competition, offering a chance to win the grand prize of a trip for two with airfare and accommodations to an Oakwood property in Asia and a Nikon 1 J1 digital camera. The submission deadline is 15 September 2012, after which the shortlisted images will be posted on the competition’s microsite for public online voting. The National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks, has launched the Share the Experience photo contest. Now in its 12th year, the competition provides an opportunity for amateur photographers to submit pictures taken at any US federal lands site for the chance of having their image selected for use on the America the Beautiful Federal Recreation Lands Pass. 159 individual works have been selected for the fifth annual Foto8 Summershow. Entries were received from photographers on every continent, as far afield as Hong Kong to Chile and Russia to Australia, making this a record year with more than 3200 total image submissions. A panel of internationally respected judges will select an image to be Best in Show for which there is a £2,000 prize. This year the Best in Show will be judged on 5th July by acclaimed British photographers Alison Jackson and Simon Roberts, the BBC’s online photography director Phil Coomes, TimeOut’s chief arts critic Ossian Ward and critic and curator Gerry Badger. The Summershow 2012 Exhibition will run from 7th July – 18th August.

The British Journal of Photography’s International Photography Award 2012 is now open for entries. The IPA has been running since 2005, and previous winners include Edmund Clark, whose series Guantanamo: If the lights go out went on to be published by Dewi Lewis; and Peter di Campo, who won the series prize in 2010 with a project on Life Without Lights in Ghana. Facundo Arrizabalaga won the single image prize last year with a shot from the student protests of November 2010, and Walter Astrada picked up the single image award in 2008 with an image depicting a victim of matricide in Guatemala. This year there are two categories to choose from: one awarding the best series of images, and the other the best single image. The closing date is 15 September 2012. British TV presenter, radio DJ and photographer Reggie Yates has joined Pentax’s ‘Meet Britain’ campaign and released a video full of tips on how to take the perfect photograph. The competition is asking members of the public to submit images of the things they feel make Britain great. Entrants can submit images across five different categories, including Great British Outdoors, Great British Culture, Friends and Family, Summer Holidays and Celebrations. One winner from each category will take home a Pentax K-30 camera and one overall winner will be awarded £1,000.

Jura single malt whisky, in partnership with Olympus, has launched an online photography competition to find images from across the world that best embody the theme of ‘community spirit’. These images could include photos of groups or individuals that evoke the spirit of the neighborhood in which they live, or even photos of festivals and events that conjure the character of a particular place. Each one of the three winners and their partners will enjoy a week’s all-expenses stay in the exclusive Jura Lodge and a VIP tour of the Jura distillery and island. The winners will also receive an Olympus PEN E-PL3 camera to create a lasting memento of their visit to Jura, and a photography workshop on the island from award-winning photographer David Nightingale. The competition runs until 3 August 2012.

Black+White Photography Magazine has launched the Black + White Photographer of the Year 2012 competition. Now in its seventh year, the contest offers five categories across the genres with the chance to win cash prizes plus copies of the book, Magnum Contact Sheets Special Edition worth £325. The overall winner will receive a Leica M Monochrom (pictured) complete with a Leica Summicron-M 35mm f/2 lens. The closing date for entries is 23rd September.
